Has anyone tried to put a x200 on an AR?  I am looking for a light that does not take up a lot of space on my rails and was wondering if it would work OK.

No one knows if this will work?

AFIK it works just fine. I do not have one mounted to any of my rifles, but some guys here do. It was designed to work under heavy handgun recoil, so no problems with the rifle in 5.56, but I cannot tell you any details about using it on a rifle / carbine.

I have one on my Glock 19. The bezel sits foward of the muzle, so it endures a bit of the muzzle blast. Close to 3,000 frounds and it hasnt suffered any.

Sure it will work, just use the picatinny rail parts.

The switching is not ideal at present, but Surefire has some interesting-looking remote switches for the x200 under development.

I think I am going to give it a try.  The problem is that if I do not like it then I cant put it on my handgun.  I have one of the older Sigs with no rail.  It might be time to find a friend that has one so I can try it.  I was thinking maybe I could work the switch by haveing it close to my vertical grip.

I have the X200A but when I put it on my rifle I didn't like how the toggle switches worked and liked it better on the handgun.  If you want a light similar to the X200 then consider the Streamlight TLR1, this is one amazing light and I actually prefer it over my X200.

Yes you can, but assuming you are thinking of running it at 3:00, unless your vertical grip is far forward you are going to get a significant shadow from the rail/forend thrown to the opposite side of the light.

Or you could run it at 6:00, but that can be a little awkward to activate as well, but doable, especially if you keep your thumb forward rather than wrapping around the VFG.

3:00 is what I was thinking and was worried about the shadow.  Maybe I should think this out for a while, or just get one that was made for a rifle. To many to choose from.

I've got a pair of X200A's mounted for the HD set. I can easily actuate the M-4's light with my left thumb.

There is some shadowing from the muzzle, but it projects well to the left of the point of aim. I hadn't even noticed it until it was brought up by vandal.

Not a problem!!

Just to satisfy my curiousity, I broke out the rifle, a tape measure and a camera:

If you're going to be using a v. grip then I'd recommend the use an offset adapter, it will lessen the shadowing affects.  I would also recommend the Streamlight TLR for rifle use because it's the perfect mix of good flood & longer range in comparison to the X200A & B.
