Whats the skinny on the X400? I am thinking about putting on AR15 and using it on my P226.

It's an X300 with a laser. The mount is different from the X300.

That's about it...

ok. I would like someone that I can use on both my handgun and ar15. Is the scout that much better?

If you don't care about having a laser, an X300 will do just fine. The Scout light won't fit on your handgun.

yeah i know the scout want fit on the handgun. I do like the light/laser combo because our buying one unt. Its not I buy a light 150 then turn around and buy a laser for 250. Is the scout that much better than the X400?

In terms of light output, the Scout is only slightly brighter than the X300 or X400. I have all three.

Depending on where you want to mount the X400 will also influence the choice. The X400 will not work on a 12 o'clock position. It will block the view of your iron sights. A X300 will not. The X300 is also half the weight of a Scout. I prefer the tail cap activation on the Scout, but there are few mounting solutions for it. The offset choices are limited currently.

With or without a FVG will influence where you intend to mount the light. I don't care for a FVG. So 9 or 3 o'clock positions with the Scout are not ideal for my hands.

The X400 stays on my XDm with a DG remote switch.
The X300 stays on my MRP.
The Scout stays on my Benelli M4.

I have an x400 on a 6.8 sbr with an acog.  I like the acog for most of the shooting i do but it falls short in the home defense roll.  The x400 picks up the slack indoors at night.  The unit is ultra compact and seems real sturdy.  However mine has a switching issue.  when it is set to light and laser sometimes the laser does not come on.  I have tried to contact surefire via email but they don't respond.  If i could get this issue worked out i'd love the unit.

edit to add
my x400 is mounted at 12 oclock on a low yhm pic gasblock so it does not block rail mounted irons.

thanks for the replies. I will mount whatever light i get on the 3o'clock. the reason i am leaning towards the x400 is because i could have light/laser combo on my ar and my p226

Will someone show me a pic X400 mounted at the 3o'clock position on an AR?

How do you plan to activate it? The remote tape switch tail cap? The Surefire XT-07 I believe it's called.

I doubt if there are many x400 out there mounted on carbines.  The popular belief is that lasers have little value on carbine.  Also they are expensive which limits their numbers.  The trend with carbine lights (especially the surefire handgun lights) is to mount them at the 12:00 o'clock position on a carbine.  When mounting an x400 the benefits of a 12:00 o'clock mount are greater still as there is no offset between point of aim point of impact from left to right.

i am going to bite the bullet and get both the scout m600c for the ar and the x400 for the p226

Nice shell carrier there on the M4.  Who makes it and where did you get it?  I'd like to put one on my M1.

Thanks,

The carrier on the buttstock is from Specregear. The one on the receiver is from SideArmor. It's apart of the the Sidearmor top rail.

read this thread last night and made me want to get one of these for my XDm, so i checked online for prices...$435+ online. then, today i had to take a short road trip out of town and decided to look up on my phone to see if there were any gun shops in the area. i got one hit for the city i was in and decided to check it out. low and behold they had just gotten in one X400 that was manufactured in August and they were selling it for $379...i jumped on it!
