| I haven't had the chance to handle one of these yet but I'm looking forward to getting one for my next rifle and I was wondering if it is necessary to buy a lense cover? How sensetive are the pressure switches, sensetive enough to accidently hit the light on when it's attached to a vert grip? |

I have a Surefire mounted to a Rock River with a Tangodown VFG. The VFG has the "slot" for the tape switch which fits very well. I have also covered the VFG (& Tape switch) with a 3" section of bicycle inner-tube to hold everything secure. Now to answer you question. IMHO, I would think that if your not paying attention you could activate ANY tape switch accidently. However, it has been my experience, with the afore mentioned setup, that it takes a very intentional movement of my support hand fingers to activate the light. I'm sure the innertube covering makes it that much more of a diliberate or increased pressure, but I have found this to be a very sturdy and weatherproof way to secure the tapeswitch. (Thanx AR15.Com for that suggestion!) I have been a LEO for 17 years and have been trained in many meathods of clearing buildings with flashlights (Mounted and not) I tend to shy away from the VFG for personal reasons (I just don't feel comfortable with my support hand oriented that way) but I have the three battery Surefire which is very long and doesn't leave any room on my 7" foregrip to mount the tapeswitch up there. My plan is to obtain a 45 degree Pcitinny offset and see if that solves my problem. Till then I'm holding the broomstick on my duty rifle. Did that answer your question, or did I just ramble? |

You can always twist the tailcap to lock out the tapeswitch. I do this when storing and transporting my AR. I have my tapeswitch held on by a bicycle inner tube on the leftside of my VFG (GG&G similar to a KAC. This keeps me from accidentally activating it, since it rests in the hollow of my palm. To activate, I just give the VFG a squeeze. I've run my rifle like this for a while. It works good for the low light run at a small 3-gun shoot I do every week. (It's more like a 2 gun shoot. Rifle and pistol, no shotgun. Very fun stuff.) |
