While my son was in Iraq I sent him a set of surefire carbine rails for his M4 along with an Eotech site. They saw some good use as he was a scout in the 3rd ID. He is home now and I decided I would build a M4 forgery and mount his stuff on it for him. Trouble is I can't get the surefires to mount solidly. Last nite I had them on what seemed solid until I mounted a verticle grip he used and they stayed together but were loose between the upper receiver and front site tower. Did he not bring home a piece? They are dirty and scuffed but the Eotech is worse. However still functions properly. Chinook3 |
M73 Did you tighten the two allen screws down all the way? Keep in mind they actually push the upper and lower rails apart to secure it in place. I once ran my M73 through a class with loose allen screws and never noticed it being loose so unless something is missing or broken you shouldn't be having a problem. Can you get a photo of it for us? |

I've had the M73 for about 18 months and it's still very solid. Granted, you son (bless him) has done far more abusive stuff with his rails than I have with mine. 1. Use a straight edge to see if something isn't bent. As a soldier in The United States Army, he's surely been taking the fight to the Hajis. 2. Make sure you tighten the screws down firmly (but don't really torque them down) and use Lok-Tite blue (or similar) to prevent the screws from moving. The M73 is by no means a free float, and tightening the two screws will change the point of impact. Re-zero immediately. If this doesn't work, call SureFire and explain your situation. I'm sure they'll be more than willing to ensure your son's fighting equipment is in First Rate condition. |

Thanks-- I got it fixed now. The rails must have some how bound up against each other and when I tightened the allen screws it just bound them tighter. I fiddled with it today and they have tightened up. I asked him about them and he did not have a clue. He is not a real mechanical type person. However if you get a chance read "Sleeping with Custer" by Walt Rogers he was an embed from CNN. He was with A troop Jimmy was in B troop. Great read! Thanks and have a great 4th!!! Chinook3 |
