If I swap out my A2 upper for a flat top, can I use the same bolt carrier? I've read that I should. But, is it really that critical? I'm keeping the same barrel. In OSUT, the ejector on my A4 was lodged outward, right as I was trying to qualify, by some brass shavings. The DS told me to swap bolts with someone that has already qualified. I furrowed my brows and looked perplexed because I've always heard you're not supposed to. He then exclaimed, "I know what you're thinking, Private. Just f*ing do it!" So, how big of a deal is it? |

If you're using the same barrel, then should should keep the same bolt. The upper itself plays no part in the headspace equation. Even if you were changing barrels, the odds are strongly in your favor if you use the older bolt assy. |
