I have an upper with a permanently attached muzzlebrake via blind pin/weld (live in CT), and a one piece low profile gas block.  It currently has a Daniel Defense 12" LITE rail, but I want to change it out for another forend.  Problem is, when I think through the process, I don't think I can remove the barrel nut and replace it with another since it won't fit around the gas block and I can't remove the gas block since the muzzlebrake is permanently attached.

So is my only option to get a gunsmith to cut off the muzzlebrake, swap out the rail forend, and then buy another muzzlebrake to replace it?

Thanks for any guidance

Here is your solution: http://yhm.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_6&products_id=43

Just cut off the existing gas block and run the above.  The only thing is, your barrel nut may not come off over your muzzle device.  Just depends on what has been pinned and welded on your rifle.

Yes you are correct.  You will have to have a smith remove your pinned comp.   Only drawback of using a fore-end that has a proprietary barrel nut.  Will only use rails which use a stock barrel nut from now on.  I have 2 DD rails on 14.5's .... will sell the complete upper and build another if need be

Just grind off the sport of weld.  The pin should just about fall out.  Might require a bit of persuasion, but it should not be too tight.  I've some that needed drilled though.  Do what work you can to it, then find a smith to reattach the muzzle device.  Save time and $$

Good luck.
