| can anyone put me a tool list together to build an ar and where i can get these tools and what all of them will cost. and tool i mean everythign i need to build it. |

While Randal’s list is tailored towards his line of work and not the average Do-It-Yourselfer, out of his list, at a minimum, you should have: - Either K or E. Wrench E being the preferred wrench do to the multiple applications it can be used for. - L. A set of standard pin punches. - R. A good vice block is a MUST to do any barrel removal/installation work. I’ve seen too many folks here skip out on buying the vice block only to ruin their upper receiver by attempting to clamp the receiver in a vice without the vice block. - S or T. These are newer styles of vice blocks used to clamp the upper receiver in a vice. They are preferred by some and can be an alternative block to block R above. Other than those above listed tools you’ll want some of the basic tools most folks may have around the house: - hammer - vice-grips or pliers - either a long 3/16 allen wrench, flat-tip or phillips screw driver for installing the pistol grip. One tool not pictured is either a ½ drive breaker bar or torque wrench, which will cover the torque range required for assembly of the barrel. Some folks prefer to use the torque wrench, others simply tighten the barrel nut using a breaker bar. I personally use the breaker bar and never had problems. The choice will be up to you. Off the top of my head this should cover the very basic tools needed to assemble an AR. If I forgot something someone will chime in. |

A man can never have enough tools. I suggest you tell your "significant other" that you MUST have a $1500 Craftsman tool set in order to assemble your $1500 rifle and the bike you bought for your kid(s) last X-mas and to keep her new $30K car running for the next 2 years until you get her a new car.  That's how many tools it takes to put an AR-15 together, and not get divorced while doing it.
