Do they use standard USGI uppers or are they special made. I am looking at getting one but want to change it out to an A2 upper.

It's a standard USGI upper.  I've compared it side by side with a regular upper and there is no difference that I can see.  It even has the gas tube clover leaf type hole marked M4 in the front.  I'm assuming it has M4 ramps, but can't tell because of the extension.  The Delta ring assembly and barrel nut are standard, too.  The charging handle is not standard though.  It doesn't have the hole in the front for the gas tube.  So you couldn't use it for anything but a .22 without a gas tube.  I have also put the Tac Sol bolt into a stripped 604 upper and there were no problems with the fit.

Here is a side by side photo of a Tac Sol .22 and a regular 5.56.  You can even see the same forge code on the receivers.

I'd opt for supporting Black Dog Machine simply for the fact that Kevin
is giving 1000% to us. He jumps through whatever hoops necessary
to further our enjoyment. He's been doing it for years, Yes for profit
but also the passion he has for what he and Black Dog Machine have
for the shooting sport. He's and everyone at BDM are great people.
Besides, you can get Drums at $60.00 along with the order. or discounted
magazines.

I'd have to second that! I think I might be keeping them in business just buying magazines.

Couldn't agree more, Black Dog Machine are good people and put out a solid
product and stand behind it. What more could you ask for!

Why would you have m4 cuts in the barrel???   the barrel goes 1/3 of the way into the reciever.  Its a 22lr barrel  not 223.  The barrel is m4 profile but dedicated 22lr barrel very accurate, I have put a lot of round thru mine over 2k. I have better luck with cmmg mags you can't see thru them but they don't crack like the mad dogs I have returned.

The M4 Profile Barrel is just as accurate as any other barrel profile that could be cut
from the same blank.

I have a couple CMMG Magazines and I'm all but certain that they will wear out at the
same point I have worn out the BDM's ( 10,000 rounds) maybe not from cracking but
from Feed Lip Wear. The plastic is a softer plastic, Besides, seeing the round count
is a very important factor to me.

If you figure out what the cost of magazines is right now while the 25% off sale lasts at
Black Dog. I believe they are cheaper than CMMG. CMMG doesn't have a drum at any price.

Need more explanation,,,,  I've now put over 70,000 rounds of 22 downrange in a variety
of AR Conversions and Dedicated Uppers. I can go on for as long as it takes.

I'm not bashing CMMG if you like their products, then support them. I don't expect to see Black
Dog Machine bashed here. They were the pioneers of magazines for AR22's, we'd still be
in the dark ages without them.

PS: HEATH223, you made a great deal. $480.00 for the upper, $60.00 for the drum and even
figuring all the shipping into the magazine price, they were under $16.00 each. You couldn't
beat that with an M1 Abrams Tank. My wife is still my family emergency so I'll have to make
my own order next week. Happy for you, that your order is in already.

Nobody said anything about M4 cuts in the barrel, however I did mention the possibility the upper receiver has M4 feed ramps.  I think it was pretty obvious that the possibility of the upper having ramps was listed as an example to address the OP's question about the receiver being a USGI type. I also mentioned the gas tube hole with the M4 marking which doesn't have anything to do with a .22 either.  Hopefully, most people understood the context and didn't infer that any of these features were applicable to the .22.

I've never used CMMG or mad dogs, but I have used Black Dog Machine magazines with a Ciener and been happy with them.
