| Our dept is going to be issuing AR 15's set up like an M4. I am trying to get them to purchase an aiming system for CQB (QUAD) scenarios. ACOG's are out too much $. Any Infor, studies or reasonable suggestions appreciated. |

I'm not LE, but I hope those in that field will respond with their advice. I tried out a few sights in all types of configurations, consulted the wisdom of the AR15 board and service folks who use different sights and have finally ended up with my own Eotech 512.A65. My vote would be for this sight or if appropriate the NV capable version for a number of reasons. -The standard one minute dot in 65 minute circle retical IMO is hard to beat and is very fast in CQB scenarios. A mansize target very close out to probably 20 feet just has to be in the circle for a hit. Use the dot for more accurate fire or engaging targets at a distance. This is one of the main reasons I chose this sight. -The Eotech is rugged. There are reflex type sights that offer similiar or identical reticals, but I didnt think they would take a potential bashing. -Cost may be a factor to a department. Unless there are great discounts on Aimpoints and their mounts, the Eotech is probably going to be cheaper. Albeit the Eotechs mount is not the greatest mount, it is built into the sight itself and doesnt require additional purchases if it is mounted to an A4 type rifle. I would like to see a double thumbscrew setup on the Eotech's. I dont think this is necessary, but would give peace of mind. -If you get the AA version of the Eotech, battery life is much better - 500 to 700 hours. My Eotech model shuts off automatically at either 4 or 8 hours. -Personally, I get a better and faster sight picture overall with the Eotech. Its a both eyes open proposition. As good as the Aimpoints are, I still feel like I'm limited by the tube. Hopefully guys who have duty or patrol rifles with good sights will give you some input. I would take a good look at other departments or services who are doing what you want to be doing and use their mistakes and advice as a springboard. As a sidenote, I see that Delta operators are using Eotechs quite often and generally think they have their shit together. |

Trijicon OEG gunsites are still a viable option. And can be had for about $150. I dont know why more people dont use them. I guess because its very old technology. Its basically a red dot sight, execpt you dont see through it. Its still a very fast sight and allows better sight than irons (you use both eyes). |

ANy reason or expiriences? IMHO (having not actually used any of these, yet) Aimpoint, EOTech, or OKO depending on $$ limit. |

7ring, for CQB I would suggest the EOTech, Although Aimpoint is a great sight, the EOTech is a single apne glass optic which offer a better field of view with out the tunnel vision effect cause by the tube optic. EOtech also come with a laser projection reticle which can produce 3D reticle with out parallex effect. the 65 MOA outer circle makes targeting a easy task, all you have to do is bracket the target with the circle, you are pretty much good to go at CQB distance. And with the fine 1 MOA inner dot, you can still go for those parameter shot that can possibly reach out past 200 yards. also using the projection technology, the glass on the unit is non reflective compare to the semi reflective glass on the Aimpoint. Aimpoint will offer easier control, and longer battery life. for your purpose, the 300 hours offer by the 552/512 series is more then enough. even the 551/511 N battery version offer a continous 70 hours on the 12th setting(20 total). the brightest setting will not have any wash out effect common to the Reflex, the brightest setting will be very clear and visible even if you use the M3 combat light and shin it to a glossy white wall, the reticle will stand out very well. Reflex is an awesome sight, but I put it a distant second to the Aimpoint and EOTech. The blue timt on the sight makes target Id at twilught hours a diffecult task. and problem with reticle wash out is a common occurance under bright sun light or indoor combat light situations. One great thing of the Reflex, NO BATTERY. |
