| I am looking to put a tactical scopewith mil dots on a flat top ar 20" what would be a good place to start with brand and type of scope. I am thinking of a 2-7x. |

For a start I would check the SWFA web page (they have an icon with the state of Texas in the cross hairs on the ad bar above and thus support the site). For a nominal grand plus, you can start to look at a Leupold Mk4 (tend to be 3-9 or similar) or IOR makes a 2.5 to 10 (?). For a few more dollars the Nightforce NXS is always a nice scope. For a few dollars less, you can go with some of the newer series of Leupold tactical. Bushnell etc. However, I don't have any experience with these. Another option is to pick up a used Leupold dull finished 2-7 VarXII hunting scope (no mil dots ... but works well for hunting). |
I ended up buying a Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40 M1 for my SR. I'd used them in the past on a couple different bolt guns for doing a little paper cutting but mostly shooting wood chucks and what ever else is flying around or in sight in the farmers fields. I know some folks like to talk smack about Leupold but my experience has always been good. Yep, there are better optics out there and I would have bought a US Optics or a S&B but I was trying to stick to some sort of a budget (thank the wife). I have $899 into it but you can spend less and have just as good a scope to cover your needs.Seems that glass can be one of the biggest decisions to make after choosing a particular make and model rifle to put it on. |
The Burris 2-7x35 Fullfield II Tactical Rifle Scope is ok (great if you consider the $$) and others reticules can be had, at an additional cost. There are better scopes, but not for ~ $220.00 |
Yup. Hard to find anything in the same vicinity price wise that matches the above scope in terms of quality. It is like that scope was born to be mounted on AR's. Now, they just need to build a version with an illuminated reticle. |
