I have a fixed front sight right now but want to switch to a folding front sight. My muzzle break is not pinned... what do I need to do? Also, how difficult? This was my first rifle I completed a few months back, but bought a complete upper so never really had to mess with the individual pieces.

Thanks in advance.

For reference, here's a pic of her if it helps!

Try this

The link is to the tacked thread at the top of the page about assembling your own upper. For your application I would use the part about putting on a free float tube just stop when you get the front sight off, and reverse.

Remove the flash hider. If it's on there tight, make sure to support the rifle by the barrel before applying torque to the flash hider. I was able to get my A2 flash hider off using a wrench and my legs squeezing on the barrel.

Your Front Sight Gas Block will typically be taper pinned. Find which side is the bigger end, and which side is the smaller. Use a oversized roll pin punch and loosen the roll pin punches from the small end. Use a normal punch to finish the job. The gas tube pin will also need to be removed. Some grease/oil along the barrel in front of the gas block will help you to slide the block off.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: when taking off the gas block, make sure the gas block is very well supported. Brownells sells a special block for this, but it's a bit expensive. Use 2x4s or something if you've got them so that your hammer strikes don't get dissipated if the FSB is not properly supported. These pins are a bit hard to get off.
