Are Tapco stocks OK? I found one for about $30 bucks less than another brand I was looking at. I just wanted to make sure there would not be any problems with it.

They aren't a bad stock, and are much better IMHO than the Leapers POS stocks out there.

I put one on a budget build and it's alright for the price. The fit to the buffer tube is kind of loose but not bad at all at one or two notches from the receiver. The stock its self seems well made, heavy duty, should take a beating(not sure about the tube though) although some of the edges are a bit rough. I sanded down the upper front part, where the charging handle over laps the stock, because it was a bit higher than I would like and would sometimes snag the charging handle. I also liked the finish, like Magpul Pmag finish, a nice flat black. I had a Bushmaster stock that was very glossy. Didn't like that too much. YMMV with all this.

The rifle I put it on hasn't missed a beat so I can't complain. If I had to do it again? I'd probably just spend more on something better.

Compared to what brand? What do you plan on doing with the rifle? Will you ever change the stock body?

Compared to say, Stag.

Well, Stag is a mil-spec buffer tube, compared to Tapco's commercial "spec".

What that means is that a) there might be a tiny difference in durability that you probably won't notice, b) the diameter of the stock is to a certain spec, so any aftermarket stock body will fit snugly and properly, and not be too loose, and c) you will have more options when it comes to changing the stock body later on, as there are more mil-spec stocks out there.

I used Tapco butt stocks in Iraq for M4 conversions. Held up fine in day to day combat use.

For a knock around truck/car type weapon, I'd have no problems with Tapco. Heck, for my needs, I'd have no problem buying one.
