I was watching a show about the ACOG and how to sight it in.  The guy from trijicon was teaching the shooters to whack the top of the scope with their hand a few times to "set" the reticle so it didnt shift after the next shot.  Is this something that should be done with other scopes or just with the ACOG?

I learned it that way with the ACOG as well.  When you move the reticle on a scope it is advised to move one click past your intended stop point then return back one click to where you wanted to go first time.  Trijicon advises to tap the adjuster as well so that you ensure that the thing moved where you wanted it and did not hang up only moving when you shot and then changing your setting without you knowing about it.  Tap it and move on.

I always tap a scope when moving it, just take a quarter and tap on the adjusting screws. Seems to work to help get that next shot where you move the reticle to. If it is close, I shoot another 3 shot group to see where it actually is, and if it took the first shot to get the reticle to move, the 3 shots will be in a different place than the first shot after movement. Acogs, leupolds, Swarovskis or Nighforce scopes, makes no difference.
