Ok well i did some searching before this post and im still not sure how to solve this problem. So ill explain.

My friend decided he wanted to play with my new stag M4, he wanted to show off to his gf how you work it and all, so he decided to place a fired empty shell in the chamber and close the bolt in hopes thay when he pulled the charging handle, the empty shell would eject out. Well he pulled the charging handle, and well go figure it didnt budge. In fact the bolt itself will not move, only the bolt carrier will but only about 1/4 an inch. So to sum up, bolt is stuck behind an empty shell in the barrel, bolt carrier barely moves and in fact the bolt carrier wont go all the way in. so any ideas how to fix this problem without damaging my new investment??? last thing i want is to have to take it to a smith and spend more money =/ but if i have to i will, any advice? Thanks everyone.

- Collapse the stock
- Point the rifle straight up, and give the buttstock a good hard whack on the ground, while pulling back on the charging handle.

Edited for clarity.

1.  collapse stock
2.  aim in safe direction
3.  grab charging handle
4.  slam buttstock on ground while pulling down on charging handle
5.  repeat harder if necessary
6.  get a new friend, yours is an idiot and shouldn't be finger fucking your rifle
7.  Secure your firearms when you are not around

I had a screwed up AR that did this after every 3-5 rounds. A couple of times I had to knock the case out with a cleaning rod from the muzzle end.

On an empty case, +1 for using a cleaning rod.

Until you get the bolt unlocked via the butt stock blow with CH pull, you can bang on a clearing rod all you want down the barrel, and the bolt is not going to unlock.

The bolt has to be cam'd open, and only the carrier moving back from the barrel extension to unlock the two mating sets of lugs it is going to make that happen.

Thats what we used at the range.  There is also another joke about being rodded off the range but i'll keep it to myself.

After completeing assembly of my lower and mating with my Stag 20" upper I hand cycled a 30 rnd mag and had the same problem as you. The slamming the butt while pulling the charging handle was necessary on the first few rnds. The bullets also had deep scratch, I carefully fired 120 rnds keeping a close eye for over pressure signs. It was just a matter of break in as the rifle functioned fine and hasn't giving me a problem in many rnds fired. There have also been a few otner posters here with Stag uppers who also had the same problem hand cycling the weapons for the first time before firing. Clean and lube yours good and wear safety glasses before firing and yours should be fine if there is not  a chamber diminsion problem.

You guys are GREAT!  If you were girls, I'd kiss you right about now.

As I haven't been on this board for about a year and 6 months ago I jammed up my AR the exact same way (with empty round in the chamber) I was just about to post asking for help figuring there would be an easy fix and you guys would know it.

Your suggestion worked the first time I slammed the stock and out popped the empty brass. Talk about feeling stupid. More so because when I asked 2 different AR experts at a gun show, they wouldn't tell me but wanted me to bring the gun to their shop entailing me driving either 80 miles or 120 miles to get there.

Guess I'll never patronize their premises! Also, my AR withdrawals will be over soon!!!

Great board. Guitargod1824! Thanks for your timely post.

Reservoir_Dog and kaiser 27. Thanks for your clear and concise answers to remedy the problem. You were right the cleaning rod doesn't work in this case.
