I was reading a thread and a few people posted that they proved to the police that their AR wasn't a machinegun.

Not ever having a fully automatic rifle, I am not sure how you would demonstrate that your rifle is only semi vs full except for actually firing.

Can anyone provide some details?

Not to flame you but why would you need to? Doesn't the burden of proof lay on the officer for something like that?

Function check. Plain and simple.

Charge action. flip to safe. pull trigger. No click should be heard.
flip to fire. Pull and hold trigger down. loud click heard.
While holding trigger down, charge action.
Upon release of trigger, audible "CLICK" shoudl be heard. If so, your disconnector is fine.

If no audible click is heard, Your disconnector may need repair. OR...it may be full auto.

Don't hold yourself back. Tell us how you really feel.

Either they will understand what you are saying, or they won't. Bottom line is if you know and obey the law, you'll come out smelling like a rose in the end.

Functions Check...

If the weapon is semi, and you or the officer) lets the trigger go after dry firing and cycling the action with the trigger pulled, there should be an audible 'click' which indicates the hammer was held back for the next shot.

I thought that would be a good test.  Obviously, the only way for the hammer to cock is by the action of the bolt.  If you are holding down the trigger and the bolt moves forward and you can still drop the hammer by pulling the trigger, thst should prove the point.

Hearing the sound of the disconnector is good, and since it won't happen until you release the trigger, it can't be mistaken for the hammer falling in full auto mode.

Thanks guys!!

(most of you anyway )

This isn't GD...

and plenty of us fucktard pigs certainly know what a function check is.

Bumpfiring has become somewhat of an art with some people so much so that a bystander couldn't tell the difference. Would be a good idea to be aware of how to perform a function test.

Not to sound stupid or something, but to prove you weapon (AR-15) is not a full auto can't ya just take the upper off and show that there’s no full auto sear in it?

Remove mag.
Charge weapon.
Pull and hold trigger.
Hammer will fall.
While holding trigger pull back charging handle and hold it to rear.
Hammer will cock.
While holding trigger slowly allow charging handle to return the bolt into battery.
If the hammer falls it is full auto.
If the hammer does not fall it is being held by disconnector.
Release trigger and disconnector will transfer the hammer to the trigger.
Pull trigger again and hammer will release.
