I had a factory Colt 9mm lower which I recently sold that did not have the pins. It was a factory replacement receiver, which had not been assembled with the 9mm block, so there were no holes drilled. Every complete factory Colt 9mm I have ever seen has had pins, because it is a two-piece mag block. I used to own a mid 90's 9mm carbine and I own a 2008 manufactured 6450 which all had the pins. I think I remember either seeing or hearing about a one-piece mag block, maybe on SAW's website, but I believe it would still be pinned in.
I believe you have a non-assembled receiver built into a gun similar to what I had. |

I just got a Colt 9mm ar15 and I was told that its rare that the lower has no roll pins holding in the 9mm adaptor. Its marked "Colt LE" and all that crap so its the real thing. I just dont know what model number it is ( I bought it out of a guys trunk at a gun show) It has a fixed "entry" stock and a lets say VERY SHORT barrel. Legal with the right flash hider on it. It runs great and is very E-Z to bump from the sholder. Can anyone shine some light on this? If the flash hider isn't pinned, it isn't legal. You want light shined? You may have them soon if the trunk you got it from was an under cover BATFE agent or informant. . |

OP, I had a friend's son buy an AR like the one you have from Bubba, at a gun show last year. They bring it over to me all excited about it. Right away
I notice it had holes in the mag well where it clearly used to be a 9mm lower but it had a Hbar 5.56 upper and barrel on it. Then I noticed a hole in the receiver drilled for an auto sear. It still had the full auto fire control group in it too. He was on his way to the range when he stopped by. Thank God he didn't make it there. All in all he spent $900 for a gun he could only use the upper, receiver extension tube, buffer, spring, stock, and sling. The lower and fire control parts had to be disposed of. It made me sick but that is what had to be done. It was a Colt too. Long story short I hope your not in the same position my friend and his son were. Make sure it isn't stolen and make sure the receiver and fire control group are legal. Get a pinned flash hider on the barrel to make it 16 inches or a tad longer. Its a damned shame that the bastard that sold it to them didn't get busted for trying to sell it and spend some time behind bars. |
