YHM has updated their flip site gas block to include a sling mount and bayonet lug standard for the same price as before. Received mine a month ago and very impressed.

The 40 uses a horizen line / half peep and the 40A uses a regular A2 peep sight with both large and small apertures. Most people prefer the A2 version |

Anyone know how much the YHM Solid Rear Sight weighs? I did not see it here, but it's a loooong thread and I may have missed it. I also e-mailed YHM today, but have not yet received a response.
I want a simple, rugged, lightweight A1-style fixed sight to put on a lightweight carbine build. Right now I'm looking at the YHM solid and the 1.3 oz. Cav. Arms Stand Alone Rear Sight and the YHM Solid Rear Sight. My priorities are (1) durability (2) standard apertures (3) light weight (4) price. UPDATE: Got a response from YHM - They said their sight weighs 1.5 oz - I might order them both, weigh and look at them, keep the one I like best and return the other. If I do I will post actual weights from my electronic scale for both |

Got my LaRue Fiday. Clean, simple, does the job. Can be used with the Aimpoint, although the Aimpoint allows you to raise your head a good bit above co-witness.
A great sight, well-made, already shows the promise of effectiveness and quality. |

The YHM fixed rear BUIS was one of my favorites, but since I wanted the LaRue cantilever Aimpoint mount, I decided to buy their fixed rear BUIS as well. I am very pleased with it. It's built like a TANK! It's a bit more expensive than the YHM, but the QD feature has come in handy more than once. Speaking of LaRue mounts, they return perfectly to zero and have adjustable tension on the QD.

Anyone have experience with both the YHM fixed rear sight and the Cavalry Arms stand alone rear sight? I am looking for a lightweight A1-style (no elevation) fixed (not folding) BUIS. IIRC, the YHM is 1.5 oz and the Cav. Arms is 1.3 oz. They look similar except the windage knob--the YHM has a knurled knob and the Cav Arms has an A1-style wheel. Does the YHM knob stay put?

Has someone ever tried to mount an EOTEch on an GG&G Scout-Rail

By the way, is the GG&G A2 Style BUIS spring loaded? I mean ,when I release the locking detent, will the BUIS flip up automaticly or must I bring it manualy in the up position? |

Here's the KAC folding FSB as used on the USMC East Coast SAM-R.
 Left Side - Folded  Right Side - Folded  View From Above - Folded  Left Side - Deployed  Right Side - Deployed  Front View - Deployed Overall this is a very solid set up, typical KAC quality work. The sight itself adjusts like any typical front sight. The unit locks down with the little lever in the pictures. Once you flip the lever, the sight is spring loaded up. Once it reaches the full up position, you can leave it as is, or lock it with the lever. Without locking it, it appears that the sight is canted forward ever so slightly. When you lock it in the up right position, it straightens up and is very solid. Spooky |

I've been looking high and low for BUIS that will suit my purposes, but haven't found anything satisfactory. I ordered a GG&G front flip up for gasblocks with my RRA upper, but it was loose when installed on the pic rail and could not be tightened down enough without damaging it, so it's on it's way back.
Anyway, as a result of this frustration and a match I just shot using M16A1 sights, I'm looking for something a bit unusual. I've never been happy with the M16 sight picture with either A1 or A2 sights and I'd much rather have a shrouded front sight similar to the H&K or Sig 550. I would also prefer to have a drum style fixed backup sight with pic rail mount, like that used on the Sig 552. The problem of course is finding one the right height for my CAR4 height rail and Weaver gasblock. With the front sight, I like the configuration of the PRI flip up, but it's the wrong height. They appear only to make it for the barrel and for handguard rail height, but not for gasblocks. On the rear sight, I've been looking around for a source on the Sig 552 pic rail mounted drum sight, but can't find one. When I do, chances are very good that it's the wrong height, but it might be correctable with some kind of spacer addition instead of making one from scratch. Any suggestions on a direction I can take? I'm willing to go as far as having these designed and fabricated custom if there isn't anything out there suitable. |

Here are the HK sights they built for the HK 416:
      I really don't think the two above can be used on anything but the HK gas block. The other ones look like they'd work on anything with 1913 rails... Prices were $130 for the fixed front and rear (each), and $145 for the gas block mounted one... From Jerry H at HKpro.com. Mounted...   Spooky |

Dual-plane would be like the A2 or A1 where the height/offset isn't the same for the two apertures. On the A1 they're the same size and offset for different zeros--250m & 375m IIRC. On the A2 the size and height are different. And according to the FAQ at XS sights, there are three different versions of the A2 with three different offsets. Theoretically on an A2 with the dial set at 8/3 you have 300m zero with the smaller and 200m with the bigger. So if you want to maintain the 50y/200m battlesight zero when switching sizes you have to dial the knob.
Same-plane apertures have the same offset for both so the zero doesn't change when changing sizes. The only same-plane that I know of is the XS. I believe both apertures on the XS are larger than the bigger one on the A2. Too bad nobody makes a same-plane with smaller apertures. I believe some apertures (like the A2) are also made with a slight left-right offset between the two to account for it moving along the threads as it's flipped. If you put the aperture on backwards (like some people do to the A2 so they don't have the dished side of the small aperture reflecting light back into their eyes, or like you might do to get the other size to be the default) then there could be some left-right shift when flipping as well as elevation changes. |

I have an ARMS 40L-SP. Its a same plane flip up. The small aperture pops up initially. I like it a lot. |
