I'm thinking about mounting a red dot style optic on my AR.

I've never shot with this style optic, since none of my shooting buddies have this set up.

Without dropping the cash on an Aim Point or EOTech right off the bat, I'm toying with the idea of mounting a cheaper (around $100 or so) red dot to see if I even like the system.

If I like the red dot optic, I will upgrade to a higher quality one down the road.

Anything wrong with my logic?

No, it's logical.

You'll probably buy twice, but you seem to already accepted that.

Something to consider... generally, a quality optic will help you shoot tigher, faster. It might be something to just push yourself into, get the instruction, and use it.

You can get a cheaper used Reddot from the EE.

Try out a Primary Arms micro dot.

It fits your budget and it is bright enough to see in snow and direct sunlight.

More often than not, a cheap red dot will wash out under those condition, rendering it basically useless.

I don't have this problem with my Strikefire. That was a concern when I bought it along with my astigmatism. But it's a nice optic for what I use it for. I'd hate to try an Aimpoint, I'm afraid I'd like it to much
