I"m new to the AR15, there's a gun shop near me that's offering the following:
UPPER receivers in 5.56mm/.223 complete with Bolt Carrier Group and NJ legal muzzle brake with Black12" Handguards: $456.00

Complete LOWER receiver with a pinned stock (NICS and completed 4473 required for purchase or transfer to FFL only): $240.00.

So you can get the parts for a complete AR15 with their "patented Tech Ops International handguard rail system' (complete with 1 accessory rail) for as little as $696.00 (plus NICS and tax where applicable). ....$696!!!

For my I'm thinking of this setup with a angled front grip,  Magpull pop-up sights with a Sightmark co-locator sight.

Any thoughts on that set up?

what brand name is this gun?  700 for a home built no name rifle is pretty expensive.  especially your first one.

Anyone can assemble parts into a functioning firearm.  I believe your first should be a name brand complete weapon with warranty.  Learn the platform and then begin the process of building with quality components to the configuration that you desire.  You can purchase a complete rifle for very close to the price you are looking at.  If you shop wisely, you can assemble a complete rifle for $500 approx. from Palmetto.  Good luck.

Rifles are so cheap right now chances are you can do better buying the whole gun, in the last month PSA has had Bushmasters at $500, I believe they still have a Colt on sale for $800, definately a whole different ball game than it was a couple years ago.

Keep it simple. So many people spend way too much on their first build trying to make "The Ultimate Ar Build" keep it simple and have fun. Even if it's about the same to buy an AR you gain valuable knowledge putting it together.

This is my first AR build. Spent under $500. Got a lot of the parts off of the EE. Had a blast putting it together.

60 bucks for that POS? What a giant waste of money. If you're looking for a cheap ar15 go to Palmettostatearmory.com and forget you even even saw those parts you're posting about. Then again, you are in NJ. Make sure you don't break any laws by buying a scary bayonet lug or something.

I agree, for your first AR I'd keep it simple and cheap.  I promise you that your first AR will probably go through multiple changes. Your taste will change and you will get a better idea of what you need vs. what you think looks cool.

mapull gen 2 front and rear sights, sight mark red dot, ar15.com upper, lower and barrel, pinned stock, nj compliant brake, angled grip, 3 pmag magazines, roomy case with lots of pockets and cleaning kit for $1100.   Could have build for less but I was looking for something to use now.   And yes!  from Tech Ops Int'l.  Great folks.

and here She is, DW having a blast... " />

she's really enjoying pistol and rifle.

Next project is to build one from parts.
