After six months I finally got to use a lathe big enough to cut, crown, and turn down my budget EE barrel, and also a micro lathe to bore out the hand guard cap.

I ordered a thread assist tool, but assumed that the die would be in my set. Sadly it wasn't. Now I have to wait for the 1/2"-28 die to come.

Anyone done this process before? What OD did you turn the barrel down to before threading?

If you have access to a lathe, you might as well single-point thread your barrel.

If you've never chased threads to a shoulder on a lathe before then some practice is in order. When you can cut working threads three times in a row you might be ready.

TC:  What is it you are building?  That barrel looks like it will have almost no dwell time, you have removed almost all the barrel forward of the gas port.  I'm wondering if it will cycle the bolt and carrier. - CW

It will if the port is large enough.  Open it up one bit at a time.
