John I read your notice www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=236616 and I'm responding here. Per your IM to me you are locking down on any of the threads that do not have technical merit in your forum.  You also said I need to get used to the OLD ways of only technical threads in the optics forum and you are going to remove the gray area that has become the norm in the Optics forum for posting. That’s fine I have no problem with that..

But, since you locked the LaRue thread as you are tired of hearing about LaRue products. You have allowed three non technical threads to remain. I posted in each one and would like to know why you only locked the LaRue thread and not the others. It appears to me that you do not like LaRue products and have singled it out for censorship.

What gives? Why the double standard?

Also, there are a lot of topics appearing which are authored by dealers which should be in the EE, if we are going to play strict and all. Topics which start out, "hey guys, I'm checking out this new product to get a group buy going, etc. "

Since I now have to dot the i's and cross the t's per your demand I guess I will need to be more vigilant. Your services to inform me of my neglegence are requested. Help me out. Tell me where I have gone wrong. Forgive my sins. Rat out the others. Pennies on your eyes.

Very simple sir, just do not create a double standard. Either remove all the non tech threads or none.

I leave it to you.

IF you cut out some of the dealer/manufacturer intiated posts you will lose a LOT of info.

We seemed to put up with 40 fricking CRAPPOINT threads that was managed barely and not always sucessfully to contain into ONE thread.

I for one found Dark Helmets post interesting - I had wished to give some other feedback, I have a negative on the LARUE EOTECH mount - that due to its size it cant be mounted on a M4RAS with a EOTECH 552 - the rear double crossbar is blocked by the RAS screw.  I know not many use RAS mounts, however there are units that do it on certain guns and this screwed that option.

DarkHelmet's post wasn't a generic, "LaRue is cool!" topic.   It was a detailed tread with 7 key points with a few sentences on each point, and even listed 2 cons about the product.   I don't think it was in the wrong forum,  AR Discussions seems to be for topics about the AR in general (i.e. History of AR; AR vs XM8) that do not fall into one of the listed AR subcatagory forums.

If other members who replied to his thread did so in a negative way, then perhaps a better way to combat it would be to edit out their text instead of locking the whole thread.

Just my 2 cents.

OK Guys lets not tear the man down. We are all not worthy compared to the service he has performed and continues to perform even now.

My method was used to get his attention which it did. John and I have just spoken and all is well.

John, you did the right thing. The forum is better for it. More of the same, please. It's a breath of fresh air around here. BTW, shouldn't this dribble be somewhere other than the tech forum? IBTL.

Funny that the only person to agree with him is another well known LaRue hater...

I am not going to nuke everything instantaneously that does not belong. And I would ask the fellow moderators to use what judgement they want to use. Maybe they do not see any problem with how things have been heading. I respect their latitude. I am not anti Larue. Do not label me that. I am not anti Grant. Dont label me that either. When I was asked to intervene last fall due to some real idiot like behavior, name calling, relating cost of gear to intelligence level and lack of respect towards a person with no other reason other than they disagreed with another. I stepped right back to the plate. I can and will ask you to behave like adults. I can and will ask you abide by some simple rules. But you always have the recourse of contacting me directly and asking for my reasoning or behavior. I will always back up my fellow moderators without hesitation. Regardless of the forum they are under. I am going to seek some advice from the guy's who run the show. Things may change. Maybe they wont.

Good advice and has merit. Always looking for input on how to make things run smoother.

How do you define "technical merit"?    If that's the policy that is going to be enforced, perhaps a sticky or something to notify that only "technical" (and an interpretation of "technical") posts are to be made.  What happens in the situation if you have two or three posts on the same product, but they have different info on them?   Everyone here has different levels of "technical" knowledge on optics.

Rich

BTW, NO flames meant in any way.  I'm just really curious.

None taken Rich. I have been in touch with a few of you guys who feel that I am imposing rules that will stifle this forum. It was never my intent to limit the wealth of knowledge that is shared nor stifle the the topics that are informative and genuine. For that reason I am dumping the rule I had earlier posted. If you guys are telling me its harmfull to this forum I will listen and act. I have been here as a moderator since 1999 and have always valued your opinion and knowledge. You have spoken and I have listened.

Thanks John. Actually though, that's his second warning. He got into some serious name calling with me out of the clear blue in a thread a couple of weeks ago. He's one of the "problems" here. You know, one of those guys that starts crap but contributes little to the knowledge base of the forum. Just my 02.

This statement couldn't be farther from the truth. Yes let's lock all positive feedback on a product!

This is classic! The EXACT same can and has been said about you! I also know that the mods on this forum have contacted you about your past comments and have issued a formal warning.

AR-M9 ID'd you for what you are (a LT hater with ZERO experience with the product). You then cry foul and try to make people think that AR-M9 is the problem child! FREAKING AMAZING!!!!!

For the record, I thought the last LT thread was pretty helpful.  I use AR15.com as 20% social outlet and 80% buyer's guide / technical reference, and any feedback beyond "it's cool!" on any product usually catches my attention.

I think you've been issued your fair share of warnings as well. Mostly, you're one who starts crap and bashes products on the optics forum. When have I said anything negative about LT? What's FREAKING AMAZING is that people like you get away with product pimping because you're a board dealer. That makes you exactly squat in my book. Let it be said here, you started this and I replied. Back to ignoring grantie mode...  I applaud JohnM for calling a spade a spade.
