I just assembled and fired my M4 this weekend (with no charging handle no less!) but there is still something that irks me and seems not quite right. The LaRue 7.0 doesn't seem to be perfectly lined up with the top rail of the upper reciever. I only have an EOTech sight right now and I can't get it to span the gap. I initially thought it was because the ring that holds the rails on was too large for the sight but when I got home I noticed that if I sat the nose of the EOTech on the ring, the LT top rail was off center from the battery lever. The lever that holds in the batteries is aluminum and integrated with the base of the sight so I think it should be dead center. Am I right in thinking that I should be able to span the gap with an EOTech? Also, when I take everything out of the carrier, I shouldn't be able to hear it contact the gas tube at all right?

Here's my upper parts list:
Colt M4 upper
Colt 14.5" barrel
LaRue 7.0 FF tube
Standard gas tube and FSP

I don't own a EOTech, but I was under the assumption that those who did had to dremel out a little under the mount to get it to bridge the gap between the upper and LaRue 7.0 without contacting the ring.

Why do you want the EOTech mounted on the rail anyway?  I would try to keep it on the M4.  What type of back up sight are you using?

The farther out you push the Eotech, the better your field of view, and mroe effective the hologram becomes.  Having it against your BUIS is about the worst way.

To each his own, mine will stay on the upper. YMMV

I wouldn't bet on the battery lever on your EOTech being dead center.  The important thing is that the rail of your upper and top rail of the LaRue 7.0 are aligned properly.  That is ultimately accomplished by the alignment of the barrel nut.  I have an Aimpoint on one of my set ups and an ACOG on the other so I can't speak to the EOTech but it looks to me like there isn't the clearance to span the two.  The diameter of the LaRue retaining ring is quite large and looks like it sits well above the rail groove which would contact the bottom of your EOThingy.

This may be a factor in my purchasing a Larue for my home defence SBR. I will be getting a 7.0 for my patrol rifle in Feb, but it wears a Aimpoint. I hope to use a EOtech on my home rig.

does the top rail line up with the rail on your upper receiver?  Get a ruler and line it up.

trial and error.

install bbl. nut and then the rail tightning by hand the locking ring then see if it lines up if not remove the rail and give the bbl. nut a little bump with the bbl wrench then reassemble and place against flat edge again.

if you are looking down the muzzle and it looks as though the rail needs to go more clockwise then keep bumping the bbl. nut if it needs to go the other way loosen bbl. nut and start over.

the eotech mount i have no idea what it fits since i do not own either eotech or eotech mount.
