| Ok, so I finally got to shoot my rifle with my new Timney 3# Skeletonized trigger. It doubled on my three times at the range. Freaked me out the first time, and of course made everybody at the range look my way. Anyways, I don't think that it is truly doubling. Ive always followed through with my trigger pulls, and with the Timney have very, very short reset and zero creep, I think that with the recoil of the rifle and my trying to slowly let off the trigger to reset point, it is bump firing or something similar. I ended up resorting to pretty much slapping the trigger for the rest of the range session in fear of doubling again. So, does anybody have an idea of whats going on, or have any of you had similar problems with your Timney triggers? Thanks. |

contact timney immediately and return it for a replacement - they've got good customer service. i had the same thing happen and it was NOT bump firing. that's what i thought it was at first, but to test it out i made sure that i pulled the trigger back and held it there without letting it reset, and it still did it. it did it both on the bench off a bipod and offhand. the buttstock was secure in my shoulder and i had a tight grip on the weapon to eliminate any possiblity of accidental bump firing. the set screws were loctited and cranked down completely. IMHO, it's a moot point whether a trigger is bump firing accidentally or malfunctioning - you should not have ANY trigger in a weapon that discharges a round when you don't intend to. |

looks like I'll be giving Timney a call Monday. I forgot to mention that while shooting I thought I had a FTF, but I distinctly remember the rifle firing. I let off the trigger to reset it but it never reset. I checked that chamber and it did chamber a round. Might seem that it didn't reset on me, but I figured if that's that case then it would double as nothing caught the hammer from locking back. If anybody else has had this experiences please let me know. I really like the way the trigger feels, but I don't want to go to a bigger range and have somebody call me in for my rifle doubling. I'm sure that Timney will help me out. |

Yep, I had one of the early ones do that. It would fire when you pulled and then released the trigger. Sent it back and it was taken care of. Haven't had any issues since. The old triggers has one set screw in the disconnector and if I remember right the new ones have 2. Not sure if that helps any. I just remember seeing pics posted. Might help figure out the age of it. |
