I am thinking of purchasing a Timney trigger for one of my AR's.  Anybody using these? How do you like it? I here a couple of people have had some issues with light primer strikes on certain surplus ammo. Have you noticed this?  Tell me what you think. Thanks..........

My two shooting buddies and I all have Timneys on at least one each of our AR's. All work great and no light strikes. It provides an extremely smooth pull for use with scoped uppers that you might use with targets, etc. Highly recommended.

I've got 3 Timney AR triggers. They are visually very cool with the yellow anodized body and the skeletonized trigger. The pull is light and breaks very crisp. However, I had trouble with two of them not resetting properly, and after calls to Timney, they talked me through a slight adjustment with an allen wrench on parts of the assembly that are supposed to be tamper proof sealed from end user adjustment. Also, I ran a rifle with one of my Timney triggers through a 3 day carbine course, firing approx 800 rounds, and I had several light strikes on Barnaul .223 ammo. Again, I contacted Timney and they offered heavier hammer springs in trade for my originals. I took them up on that but now the pull is a little heavier than advertised for triggers I bought. I don't have a gauge to say exactly.

I discovered the Bill Springfield trigger jobs after getting into the Timneys, and I've got several of these also, ($35 job on your parts) and I would take this set up anyday.

My Timney 3 lb with skeletonized trigger has functioned 100% in my Colt 6920.  Very pleased...

I had the same issues as docmcb. Instead of fighting it, I got rid of it.

Mine has been excellent. Clean break and 100% functionality. Just bought a second for my AR10.

A friend of mine has one. His got hammer-follow every once in a while...I think he was running it with a Ciener kit though. Probably just needs a disconnector tweak.

Is it just me or does anyone find the trigger is much further back than stock?

Other than changing the regular feel of a stock AR, I know have to think about correct finger pad placement on the trigger...

Where as before, with all other triggers I have tried, stock, 2 stage Armalite and RRA, my finger would naturally fall on the trigger in the proper location when grasping the grip.

Is there a grip with a bigger backstrap that can restore this natural finger placement.

Factory trigger components + dremel and polishing head + JB bore compound = 5lb trigger that breaks like glass and still lights off even Wolf primers.

A Jig and set of stones for changing the angle on the face of the trigger dropped it to 3 lbs and still lights Wolf primers.

This also allows me to keep the hammer in place and just swap triggers for 3 or 5 lbs.

I'm thinking about making even lighter triggers but don't have any spares ATM.

I was in love with mine until a 3 day carbine class I just finished up.  Had a 4 pounder in my MRP.  On the first day, it began having the same problem of not resetting.  Yanked it out and put the factory trigger back in.  Maybe for a match rifle, OK.  For a fighting rifle, I'll go without all the extra doo-dads that can screw you when you least expect it or need it.

I hate to bump this, but I've been having problems with my Timney 3lb resetting also.  It only seems to occur when I'm rapid firing.  I've never experienced the problem at the range when slow firing.  I'm posting this mainly as a warning as this seems to be a trend.  I have to call Timney yet and see what they suggest doing.

Using mine in a Remington R-15. It's much better than the original but it does have a slight amount of creep.

I have 2 of the 4# units with the heavier AR-10 hammer and hammer spring.

One of them has no issues after 700 - 800 rounds.  The other had a couple of failures
to reset in around 600rds.  I did the adjustment, and have not had another failure in
around 250rds so far.

I tried the Bill Springfield trigger job as well.  I had Bill do 5 or so of them for me.
They all started to double after about 400-500 rounds, due to the hammer and trigger
being polished through the case hardening.  That is when I looked for another option,
even though it was a far more expensive one.

I still have my Springfield modified trigger parts, and perhaps I will try them again, or
have Bill look at them.  But for now, I will use the Timney if it meets my expectations.

Regards,

Scott

You may have the 1st version that came out - common issue. The second (revised version) will have 2 set screws with a sealant on each head from the factory. These screws will be on the trigger and disconnector - don't get these confused with the 2 screws on either side of the trigger to lock the housing down.

I'll find out this weekend, the mailman dropped my Timney #3 skl. off Mon. took about 15 min to install. The trigger pull is beautiful. I pulled some bullets from some M855 and all fired no light strikes.

I actually had the lower built by a company on this site so I can't say I know about the screws.  Maybe I'll try pulling it out myself and giving Timney a call.  The trigger was purchased from the retailer about a year ago and as I recall they had been out of stock and mine was built with a new shipment, meaning there is no chance I got a trigger that had been sitting on a shelf for some time.  Would this second version have been released since a year ago?
I really like the trigger, but for it's price I'm disappointed this has to be dealt with.  Oh well, as long as they stand behind it I have no problem with them.

Thanks for the additional info everyone.
