Are the timney triggers reliable enough for a self defense AR.

Been using a couple for a little over a year. Only occasional use / once a month, nothing hard-core, about 200 rounds or less a session. Kept maintained; never had a issue.

Good trigger; even a buddy bench-rest shooter type thought it was a very good trigger (for a AR).

I do not expect it to wear out anytime soon being S-7 tool steel.

Should be fine with a Timney. I must admit, I only have one now. The only triggers I have bought in the last three years have been Geissele SSA.

I have Geissele in my ARs and a Timney in my Rem 700. Both are great and huge improvement over stock, you probably can't go wrong either way.

Mine was not, had troubles with it doubling. It did have a fantastic crisp feel though. The next few AR's I built I went with geiselle and never looked back.

I would trust them in a rem 700 but not in an AR.

I was hoping they would be a little more reliable.

Those that I have handled don't inspire a lot of confidence that they are going to light off a hard primer.  The hammer strike just sounds really weak.  I have read anecdotal reports that others have had issues with Lake City or IMI ammunition.  Again, anecdotal.  I don't want to throw Timney under the bus. Two friends of mine use them for 3-gun and they love them.

They can be super light with short take-up and reset, but I've always been 'meh' about Timney AR triggers.

I think Geissele is the correct answer for a nicer trigger with uncompromised reliability.
