Anyone have any opinions about the Timney single stage triggers. They seem to run around $200. I know they are good trigger in a sporter, what about an AR.

Good stuff, have a 3# in my .308 AR and it's the best AR trigger i've got.

(if it were a hard-use or working gun i might go with a Giselle though...)

I have a 3 lb pull Timney on my AR-15 precision lower and I love it. Smooth and definitely has the "glass rod" break that so many people love. If you are willing to spend that type of cash, I say go for it. You won't regret purchasing one.

I think the Wilson TTU is a better trigger.  But, then, it's a bit more cash...

I put one in my SPR build and I am very happy with it.  Install is pretty easy, it drops in and is tensioned with set screws.

Make sure you have a set of trigger pins as mine did not come with any.

Timney is good to go. I have the 3lb in my 308 AR and it is sweet.

I also got kns anti rotate/walk pins free with mine. It is very solid.

Unfortunately I get light strikes that fail to ignite some surplus ammo
because I have the AR15 trigger in my AR10.

YMMV

I've have yet to have a light strike in my .308 even on DAG primers.

Which surplus were you having trouble with?

Interesting that you mention DAG I had 3 out of 40 that had to be restruck to go boom.

I have some Tula I am going to try next time. I have never had a problem with anything else.

If your having light strikes Timney has a heavy hammer spring that should solve the problem.

The 4lb AR-10 trigger was designed for the AR10 (obviously) and has a hammer with more mass, but if you've already got the 3#, you could do what he^ said to fix the light-strikes.

you might end up with a slightly heavier trigger though...

Buy w/confidence - excellent triggers...I have 2 solids and 1 skeletonized all 3lb versions. BTW, my Sabre Defence PMR which I purchased 2 years ago came with a Timney Solid 3lb version straight from the factory. I recently purchased a Sabre Defence SPR and they have switched to a complete JP Trigger group from the factory (not sure why they changed - perhaps, cost?)...either way - both are solid but, I honestly still prefer the Timney!

I have two in my AR's, one a 10.5 and one a 16 inch.  I use KNS anti-walk pins on both, and they are fantastic triggers.  I shoot both rifles suppressed and have put thousands of rounds through them without a problem.

If you will be doing heavy fire make sure to put a drop of oil on the anti-walk pins as the do not rotate and they can heat up (Timney says then in the owners manual but I think most people just ignore it).

I am working with Timney to get the stronger hammer spring. The strikes looked like they should have lit the round off the first time, actually.

I have had Timney's before, both the AR10 4#in a precision AR10 and a 3# in a precision AR15.  I thought the 4#, although it would ignite everything, was too heavy a trigger squeeze for my preference and I could feel noticable creep which really annoyed me. The 3# unit was ok...but I think my JP trigger installed from the factory and tuned on a seperate lower which is on yet another gun is the nicest single stage trigger I own.  Breaks around 2.5#'s without any percieved creep and has set off any round I have ever put in the gun without a problem.  The AR10 Timney was replaced with a Geissele DMR unit...awesome!  The other 3# Timney was replaced by a Geissele SSA-E in the precision rig AR15...awesome as well.  I question Timney's quality as a hard use trigger...

Define "good".
Are you a high speed, low drag baby killer?
Are you a sandbag slouching, bench sitting, precision reloading old grandpa?
Are you a rodent+dog+hog exterminating, varmint's worst nightmare?
...

I have two Timneys.  One with about 3500 rounds and the other about 1000.  Both have been flawless.
