I'm sure there's a hundred threads about how to install a free floating handguard, but I understand the process pretty well, I'd just like to see if there's any tips that might make the process easier.

I've got a LaRue 10" handguard for my 16" Stag Arms upper assembly. My plan is to remove the standard FSB and cut/grind it down to make it low profile.

I've got a generic brand rotary tool and all the attachments, upper receiver vice block, AR-15 wrench, non-marring hammer, and a roll pin punch set. I'm doing the install in a friends shop who has a vice and a wide selection of allen wrenches, crescent wrenches, shop rags, moly grease, and pretty much anything else that one would find in a shop.

Is there anything I'm missing or I need to get before I go installing this thing?

Use anti-seize on the big "ring" that holds the hand-guard to the barrel nut. They are sometimes a bear to get off if you need to work on the gas system at a later time.
Also, use green Lock-tite on the retaining screws that lock the ring or they will come loose.
Make sure you have a good strap wrench to tighten the big ring and use lots of tape to cover things so you don't scratch.
Don't go crazy with the gas block trying to make it look pretty...you just need it to fit under the rail...I have seen people cut away too much material and open-up the gas system...your FSB is pinned to the barrel and only that one will go back on there because the pin holes are drilled to that barrel. Don['t risk flocking it up by trying to make the FSB all pretty and streamlined.

Take your time and have fun.

Torque wrench. Preferably 1/2" drive. Most barrel nut wrenches use that spec.

If the Larue uses its own barrel nut wrench you'll need that too.  I've never installed a Larue. Only Troy TRX and MRF, Daniel Defense, JP, and YHM.

Standard method of installing will involve tightening and loosening twice and on the 3rd run go to the next notch in the barrel nut below 80ft-lbs.

Good luck

No real tips to pass on. It doesn't really get any easier than it already is.

I don't think the LaRue rails require a torque wrench. I think it's sort of, tighten it by hand until it's tight then torque it until the hole for the gas tube lines up. But I think my friend at the shop has one regardless.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I know it's pretty straight forward, but I also know the little things is what makes the installation easy/hard.
