I am all hyped up to build my first AR when I start talking to local FFL's about the receiver transfer. Every one of them has done their best to talk me out of it - scare stories about warranty issues, problems with performance and dangerous safety issue... Is there something I am missing, or are they just trying to sell me a rifle? |

They're trying to sell you a rifle. If you can build one yourself, most repairs can then be done by yourself. Get one and enjoy learning all about how it functions. Then you'll be better off in the long run. Building a lower isn't that hard, there's a great instruction sheet on the site somewhere, and you can buy an upper for your first one. Plus, you can always buy a complete rifle some other time. Getting them in parts is definantely a way to average the cost over a period of time for those who don't want to layout the whole cost at once, anyways. |
| I agree with "ProfessorEvil". You are not going to save a whole bunch of money building your own; but you get a lot of knowledge about the workings of the gun by building plus the personal satisfaction. I built a m4 carbine using all Rock River Arms parts and it works flawlessley. Absolutley no problems with it.I bought the stripped upper and lower with the bolt and carrier localy and the rest from this site. Here is a link to some good info old.ar15.com/docs/assembly/lower/ There is other useful info on that page along the side like the Technical manuels in the books section. Don't let that guy scare you out of building your own. |

PLEASE: do any of you have any suggestions about where to get ORIGINAL[Colt/Fairchild]-STYLE/LOOKING forged-alloy upper(s) WITHOUT the "forward-assist", BUT WITH the carrying-handle-sight & the triangular fore-end hand-guard & AN ORIGINAL "SUPER-SKINNY"/"pencil"-look BARREL [especially if I can get one WITHOUT any flash-supressor or brake, my only PREFERED departure from the original look, just the "super-skinny"/"pencil"-style barrel] to build my Colt/Fairchild "Sporter"-type AR-15? I would like to build it on the new one-piece polymer lower that Cavalry Arms is producing! If I could, in addition, find an upper WITHOUT the "bolt-forward-assist" that is carbon-fiber [rather than alloy] that would be also way cool. Please post your reply or e-mail me direct: <[email protected]> Danke~schone! |
larryk1........I don't know but suggest putting a post in the equipment exchange forum either in want to buy or parts section |
