i will shortly be getting my AR and cant yet decide if i should buy a bunch of ammo for it or get a reloader and make my own?
i reloaded in the past but sold all my gear and now deciding if i should get back into or not?

for the price of a new RCBS kit i could buy a thousand rounds and for the price of buying a bunch of brass, powder, primers and bullets
i could buy a few hundred more rounds so i would like to know from other reloaders what is the price of a reloaded .223 round and
the average price of a factory bought round?

also wondering about WTSHTF if its better to have a reloader as store bought ammo might not be easy to come across???

but to answer your question, reloading is about 50-60% of comparable factory ammo

Reloading forum is this way ––––> http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_6/42_Reloading.html

But, IMHO, reloading is the way to go. Its like a hobby in a hobby. And, as you said, if the SHTF...or an ammo ban...reloading might come in handy (if you have the necessary components or know how to make the components).

I havent done the calculation for awhile, but I believe the cost of reloaded ammo comes out to less than $0.20 a round....

After almost a 7 year or longer break from reloading I am just now starting to get back into...My reloaded ammo is going to be my practice ammo, while the commerical/surplus ammo is being held in reserve...

Also, your reloading kit is a one time investment that will eventually pay for itself...

well if there is a reloading section i have no clue where its at, i have looked in the following areas:
armory, training, general, outdoors and i only stay in the ar-15 area and it isnt in here either?

like i said before i have been out of reloading for many years and it looks like the cheapest way to get back into it would be with the RCBS - Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading Kit which can be bought for under $300 but its the ammo supplies i have no clue on of how much they have gone up. i used to buy from a place i think was called Black Hills reloading or something like that and they had great prices on stuff.

i am on a limited fixed income so it takes awhile to save up for some items. i have an old Winchester model 1903 i might trade towards the AR but i could probably get more for it selling outright so wont be out much money for that and the money i have left in savings i can buy some ammo or the reloading gear, so i need to do some research, listen to others and then decide what to do?

It's in the Armory board, and I would move this there but your question is, I believe, addressed in the tacked threads there. Please check it out.
