That is my question. Here is why I ask it...
I have a DoubleStar Lower and LMT upper with 11.5" 1/7 barrel. That being the case, it is not going to achieve sub MOA beyond 100yds. Other than maybe personal preference, is there anything to be gained by going with a free float hand guard? Pics will be made available later once I get a new camera...

Just additional real estate for mounting extras.

I've asked myself this question a hundred times. FF?. Well, I have one or two of my 7 ARs that I want to FF. Some of the others have such heavy bbls, that the cost to payoff ratio isn't worth the money. When I think of FF, it's on bolt guns. On ARs, you still have the gas tube that has some contact with the upper, or a piston unit that has some spring pressure on the carrier.

It's better spent on a good Timney or other match trigger, mags, or optics and ammo, or a carbine course. FF is for the best potential in accuracy. I'm not going to "warp" my 10" anything, 5.56 or .22 LR. by using the sling or bipod with tension. I plan to put drop-in rails, not FF, for my $15K RR/M16 conversion and my SBR. 10" bbls are not made for sniper use. All I want for the shorties is a solid enough mount for my FPG and tac light. For a 16", it MAY help some. But again, OPTICS, and trigger first. Only then will it make a REAL difference besides "cool, man". My cost effective opinion. If you just won the lottery, by all means, buy FF for everything you own....even your shotguns.

It's really not gonna do much for your SBR. As it is the benefits on longer barrels are minimal, noticeable but minimal. Most of the "good" rail manufactures make their rails FF anyways so just get the best that you can afford.

I made that claim too, but my wife knew the metric system.

I am a big fan of FF hand guards, but on an SBR it would be a little pointless. My shortest is a 16" and it has a FFhg to eliminate sling/bipod tension on the barrel. I like to know that when I miss, its me... Or the ammo and the wind gust and the target shifted and the sites were bumped and...

For an 11.5", the only thing gained is the coolness factor and we all know that's the only thing that counts.

LMT Upper, I don't know who made the 11.5" barrel that is on it. (got it second-hand).
