If I fire the ar15 too many times and it gets hot is that bad?

Talking like maybe 300 rounds in a half an hour!

you'll be fine

If that was the case, anybody who has ever carried an AR into combat would have been screwed.

I have fired more than 800 rounds in a about an hour. Didn't do anything but completely remove all oil from the outside barrel.

I routinely shoot 200 rds in 30 min w/ no issue.  My dept. LMT full autos go thru AR training 2x a year -- each gun gets a team of 6 shooting 84rds semi and 28 full auto.  6 dept. members cycle thru in about 45min.  That's a whole lotta more thant you asked about.

So far no issue.  After each 6 the BCG is lubed.

That's the importance of chrome lining.  I've fired a couple thousand rounds  in a hour doing  react to contact drills until my barrel was red hot.  Trust me, that's the reason this gun has it's own forum

300 rounds in a half hour; we call that GOOD TIMES!  It's semi-auto you're good to go.

Maybe something really cheap might have an issue but I think even a Model 1 upper would be totally fine.

lol, yeah.  Because barrels don't get hot when you use a piston upper.

Yes you'll be fine and what everyone said is correct,... But Firing a BBl till it is very hot is not without effect.   A hot BBL erodes at the throat much faster.  If you have a high quality BBL that you would like to keep around for a while, keep it to a minimum.   If BBl wear is not an issue then fire away, the platform can take it.

I remember back around 94 or so the Colt military rep came by with two M4A1s.  Imagine about 50 SF guys with 2-30 rd mag each firing the gun as fast as possible (some semi, most auto), reloading and shooting again.  Guns got hot were we wore leather gloves and then when it got too hot we dump 5 gal water cans over the guns.  We went 3360 rds per gun that afternoon WITHOUT any malfuctions.  That was a extreme test and demo.  Needlessly to say we got our M4A1s later that year.

Don't think you have much to worry about.  However, 6-7 mag dumps full auto (less then 1 min) can create enough chamber heat to cook off a round in the chamber!

unless you have auto, i doubt you can get it hot enough to do any damage.

You will wear the throat out faster, but unless it is a precision rig don't worry about it.  I like to keep my rifles cold enough so that I can still hold the barrel without burning myself.

A piston upper? That thing must be hell to cock with the huge spring necessary to spit out a .223 copper jacketed bullet at over 3000 fps.
