So i'm sure this may have been asked before, but I didn't see the threads for it, sorry if that's a problem..I just recently got my first AR, a RRA Entry Tactical and done a few additions etc.  I'm wondering though, why all should I keep in my range bag for this weapon?  I ordered site adjustment tool, a cleaning kit (don't have one for that caliber yet), and a CAR stock wrench (I sure hop that's the right one).  I was curious about what other tools would be good for me to get and keep in my bag for my AR?  Also what spare parts if any should I keep.  I did see a thread about what parts break, but haven't had time to read all 38 pages.  Anybody able to provide a good straight forward list of good suggestions to keep on hand?

For a range bag? A spare firing pin, firing pin retainers, a spare bolt.

That's the bare minimum.

ok, you said that's the minimum, what's "average" I guess, or even beyond that.  Should I pick up these spring kits, or parts kits such as what RRA sells on their site etc?  Or just the basic like you mentioned?

It's not gonna hurt to have more spare parts than you need, but there are some parts that you definitely won't be replacing while you're at the range.

I usually have a complete bolt carrier group, a lower parts kit, firing pin retainers, and extractor springs in my bag, but my range bag is also my bug-out bag.

Out of all the parts I listed above, the only thing I have ever had to replace in the middle of a session was a firing pin retainer.

If you plan on shooting any of the junk Russian 5.56 Ammo. I sure would get a broken shell extractor.

I too have a RRA entry tac.  I don't worry too much about keeping parts in my range bag, if something breaks, I'll just go home, it's not that important to me to have the ability to fix it at the range.

I have stocked up on spare parts based on various threads from this website.  I have a complete spare bolt assembly as well as every part the makes up the bolt assembly with the exception of the body (multiple extractor springs and inserts and gas rings), 3 or 4 firing pin retainers, a couple firing pins, a couple of cam pins, a carrier key and screws, a buffer spring, and a charging handle.  I purchased all of these parts with the exception of the CH from RRA.  I also purchased from Bushmaster a complete spare parts kit, which for $50 includes every pin, spring, and detent in the gun, including the buffer spring, so some of the parts in this kit are duplicates of ones I previously mentioned.

The only other thing that I may purchase is a buffer assembly and a bolt carrier, and perhaps a LPK, but for now I feel pretty comfortable with what I've got.

The easy answer:

-Bolt carrier group

-Lower parts kit

-Tools to assemble lower

-Buffer spring

The easier answer:

-A spare AR

Seriously, if you go with the easy answer it will end up turning into the easier answer.

I do recommend having the easy answer on hand as backup. Probably keep it in BOB. Get a couple extra springs, like what Captains 1911 mentioned above.
If you have a chrome silicone buffer spring I don't think I'd worry about having a spare one.

ETA: Oh yeah, the only thing I have ever hurt on one of my AR's is the charging handle. Might want to get one of those.

It's a rare that I would break anything on my AR the only thing that I broke was also a firing pin retaining pin.

I usually carry these in my range bag (but I don't expect to use them):

bolt extractor spring kit
complete bolt carrier group
charging handle
lower parts kit
AR front and rear sight adjustment tools
multi tip gunsmith type screwdriver
pliers
long nose pliers
AR pin punch set (7 pcs)
brass hammer
AR multi tool wrench
cleaning kit
lube

I would also recommend having a spare AR, if you don't want to waste time fixing the first one, just get the spare and keep on shooting.
