Hello all.  Don't want to cause any grief and I have searched the site pretty good(man there is alot of info here), but could not find anything all inclusive.  I am looking for a list of tools for a build.  I know some folks say you only need a few specific tools, but I would like to compile a nice tool kit.  Can anyone give me a link or list of a good AR build kit to include headspace gauges, punch sizes, wrenches, etc? Also the cheapest source anyone has found.  Thanks

Alright, I'll give it a stab. This is from memory so I may be forgetting something.

Basic hand tools from your toolbox-

*Workbench with vice
*Flathead and phillips screwdrivers of various sizes
*Small jewelers screwdrivers
*Vice Grips (these will be wrapped in tape to work as a makeshift press)
*Circlip pliers (delta snap ring, etc)
*Small gunsmithing hammer - mine has replaceable dual heads, one is brass and one is nylon
*Drift punches (brass, full set)

Custom tools specifically for AR's

*Good quality Armorer's wrench. This will have the buttstock wrench (rifle and carbine), barrel wrench, FH wrench, and a flathead screwdriver all built in. I think mine is a DPMS.
*Lower receiver vice block
*Upper receiver vice block (necessary when doing barrel changes so the vice doesn't collapse the upper)
*1/4" Cotter pin (not sure this is the right name, there's another thread about it - for installing forward retaining pin detent and spring)
*Headspace Go/NoGo gauges - not normally necessary but nice to have

Plenty of other stuff you can get, but I did everything with what's listed above. I told my friends not to bother to buy the tools, they just use mine now. No sense in doubling tooling costs!

I read the sticky above about how to assemble an AR and compiled a list.  Brownell's carries kits but IMO, they are overpriced and unless you are building for a living or a gunsmith, they are overkill.
Cheers,

pevrs114...thanks man that is exactly what I was looking for.  Looks like I need to head to Sears or start shopping online.  Thanks again.
