Hello Everyone,

I still kinda new to this site, and I'm trying to build my first AR which happens to be a retro model.  Actually, I'm working on a 603 and 604.  My question is what roll pin punches do I need for the AR?

I currently have the following punches

1/16"
3/32"
1/8"
5/32"

Do I need any others?  I plan to purchase the following

Armor's Tool
CAR Wrench
Upper Vise Block
Lower Vise Block

Do I need anything else?

Thanks for the help guys!

Unless someone reply's, look in the repair manual. The one peice of advice that I can give, is make shure your punches are quality hardned punches. I purchased a super cheap chinese knock off, and with the first blow the punch bent in half. I guess you really do get what you pay for LOL....

Doesn't the armorers tool usually have a car wrench built in ?

THe armorers tooling is really helpfull and a must if you plan to build your own guns. As for punches, you buy what size the job needs, I don't have measurements of them, but using a punch that is too long and thin will berak it. My punches are cheapos, one set is Craftsman the other is Dasco or something like that. In any case they both have worn, broken and will always need to be dressed on a grinding wheel, such is the way of these tools.

Aluminum barrel jaws.  To hang into the barrel while removing flash hiders and punching out the front sight pins.

They're handy for working on any gun and don't bugger up the finish

I'd also suggest picking up the following:

1) 1/4 clevis pin for installing the pivot detent and spring.
They run about $1 at the hardware store and can save you 30 minutes of cussing!

2) Some grease for the barrel.

3) A good large flat screwdriver for the buttstock.

4) A1 sight tool.
Also helps when installing sights in stripped upper.

5) 7 oz hammer.
Get a 7 oz hammer so you're less likely to 'over-pound' and break something.

6) snap ring pliers.

Where would one get a quality set w/o breaking the bank?
