I just had an idea I'd like to run by everyone here. In aircraft maintenance (maybe other things too, I don't know), sometimes properly torqued bolts are marked with colored torque seal. This stuff indicates if the nut or bolt has shifted. If it has moved, the stuff cracks and breaks off. When I installed the BUIS on my AR15, I put a line under the nut, and another on the back by the charging handle.

Now, if for some reason the rear sight has worked loose, I can quickly see that. Any thoughts?

Not a bad idea...other than the fact that you have bright orange markings on your upper Maybe if you used something else to mark it, or attempt to make the lines pencil thin it would look better.

They make it in other colors. Blue might look better. I only had a long expired tube of the stuff that I got from work to play around with.

As it is, its pretty hard to notice when its on the bottom.

Plain old fingernail polish does basically the same thing and it's cheap.  Use a dark color though...

But here's a point: That BUIS is supposed to be able to be removed and replaced with accurate return to zero.  It's how the whole rail concept works.  If you have the nut tightened enough to keep it on the gun, it should not move at all.  If it does, you have problems other than losing zero.

25 years of aviation maintenance experience here.

Not a bad idea, I do the same thing, but instead of using torque seal, I use black paint. Less noticeable, but still gives me an indication if a screw starts to back out.
