I am a total n00b to all things AR.  I've spent the bulk of my gun-owning life with comblock rifles.  However, after encouragement (or peer pressure, as I like to think of it) from one of the other board members here who I know out in the real world, I decided a few AR's were in order.

I currently have 5 stripped lowers, 1 S&W 5.45x39 upper, 10 5.45x39 mags, 10 5.56 mags, and 1 funky sling doohickey.  I am open to any and all suggestions as to what my next move should be.  Any and all advice is appreciated.

At the very least build up one of the lowers, buy some 5.45 ammo and go shooting.

Why don't you build an upper in 5.56 with a 14.5" upper? You can build all sorts of configurations. have at it and enjoy shooting them.
I've got a 20" rifle and a 16" mid-length. One I get my hands on a 14.5" upper I will mate it with my last stripped lower. Making my collection complete(hopefuly)!

I would either need to SBR that or silver solder on a FH/MB, right?

Just silver solder won't cut it. There is a certain temperature rated solder the ATF wants (some one will be along soon with the info), or you need to pin and weld the FH on.

It's actually quite simple to drill and weld the flash-hider. If you get the 14.5" upper make sure that you buy the extended F/H. This will make the upper legal after you drill, pin and weld. There's a thread in the AR forums somewhere. Read it and you'll be amazed at how easy it is.
