You guys use them in any particular manner? For example, in a 30rnd mag: top 22rnds 3rnds tracer 5 rnds at the bottom One mag dedicated as tracers, such as a 20rndr? |

If you do shoot tracers, be very careful of your surroundings. I’ve seen more than one range fire because of them. In the military a range fire is no problem. The range goes Cold and you call Range Control. They put the fire out, and it's business as usual. The most recent range fire I saw was on a private range. That one was not so fun. |
cool, thanks. Just as a sidenote: how often is this done in the .mil? |
Pretty basic load when I was playin in the sand box...except I didnt use the top three as tracers, just regular ball ammo. |
I have done that over in the hot place,,I had a couple of mags with nothing but tracers, for target ID. Tell my team to watch my tracers and they know the target area... |
this is still tought today. Fisrt 3 to get you on target, last four to let you know its time to reload. |

We had a mag with just tracers in the humvee turret. It helped with the ROEs, as we had to shoot pyro and then warning shots at vehicles that didn't stop. Tracers helped the folks getting shot at, know they are getting shot at, so they would then stop their vehicle and/or pull off the road. Hardly ever had to shoot though, as pen flares and popups usually got their attention. One of my guys went through, I don't know like ten, saw drums and pulled all of the tracers off of them, and linked them all together. We never got to shoot it though, it would have been awesome!! |
+1 The only times I knew for certain we were being engaged was because of tracers and of course finding the occasional holes on post flight... ![]() I wouldn’t waste my time with them if I were buying… |
