Have a question about traveling with my AR.  What kind of things will I have to do to be able to transport my firearm?  Also does the Airport have problems with AR's that have the pre-ban features?  I wouldn't like to be met by armed guards or police for having a AR with pre-ban features that looks like a "assault rifle".

Well, I can help just a bit but I'm sure it works the same in any airport.

I go hunting and I travel alot to north florida with my guns, as far as I know you just need to have each weapon in a case, metal or plastic, and all ammo needs to be in another separate case (such as an ammo box, tool box, etc.) and then you just register the gun and whatever case you have your ammo/mags in as luggage.

That's all I need to do in the airport here in Miami and when I am traveling from the airport in Valdosta, Georgia back down here as well. It's always been obvious that they let me do this because you can't access the weapon without going to the luggage area on the plane if anything and by that time you'll be arrested most likely trying to get back to the luggage area.

Buy yourself a quality locking case.  Leave your magazines unloaded and your ammo in the container.  When you check in, just tell the attendant you're checking a firearm.  Follow his or her instructions, and be polite.  Don't worry.  I travel with firearms all the time, and it's easy.

Editted to add: Don't sweat your ARs.  The airport staff could care less about what you've got, so long as it's packed properly.

Exactly.  Locked in case.  No ammo in gun.  Declare firearm.  Noone cares if its preban or anything else.
