What was the original finish for the triangle handguard cap? Parkerized? Did any have a smoother black oxide finish? If there were different finishes what timeframe or manufacturer would they correspond to? |

As far as I know, all of the original 1960s thru 90s end caps were parkerized in manganese phosphate. These have a slight texture, and look dark gray to black, especially when oiled. When dry, they look a lighter gray. Some of the modern production, or reproduction end caps (both triangle and round) look like they are coated with black oxide. |
