So just finished an AR build (have done several others in the past) using standard parts- PSA lower parts kit but upgraded safety selector from SI. Anyway, the trigger has a severe sting to it when shot. Not just the perception of it as I had my kid shoot as well and it is felt. The only thing different from this build as my previous is that I used a 14.5" barrel with pistol length gas tube and pinned brake. Barrel has a reduced size gas port to account for the shorter length but a cant see how any of that would effect the trigger. Also it didn't lock open on the last round. Cycled fine and shot well so any advice is welcome on cause....

Did you put the tapered disconnector spring in upside down?
If the spring binds, it can give you trigger slap.

Normally, if everything else is in spec with the lower and trigger parts, when the hammer passes over the disconnector hook you don't feel it because the overlap is taken up by the disconnector spring.

What caliber is the upper? I ask because a pistol length gas 14.5" is unusual unless you're shooting 300blk or a thumper caliber.

I'm Pretty sure the spring is right but I'll double check. As far as caliber, it's a .223 wylde/5.56. When buying I noticed that a lot of 14.5 were pistol especially the less expensive ones.

Where did you get the barrel and are you sure it's not carbine length gas? I don't know of any major manufacturer offhand making pistol length gas 14.5's in 5.56.

Sure not carbine length...if I put a carbine length tube on a pistol length it would be a couple inches to long and the bolt wouldn't close...probably couldn't get the upper on with the bcg in right?

True, it's just an odd combination.  What brand is the barrel?

purchased from Sander Armory but pretty sure they only bring them in... I'll have to check the stamp tonight to see if it says. from memory I think it only shows the normal info. caliber and twist...

More than likely a bad trigger group.

it could be a bad hammer (too much meat on the bottom. or a bad disco/spring.

It "might" be from a severely overgassed barrel, which could be the case if you have a pistol gas system on a non pistol barrel. Only way to fix this would be a adjustable gas block or heavy buffers.
