I have a Core 15 I bought just before the Newtown shooting and things went crazy. Now that I can afford to shoot it for fun again I am interested in a smoother trigger. I am punching holes in paper, not interested in any type of competition (except a friendly rival with a buddy). I am not looking at the best $100's national match competition trigger. Something lighter and smoother. I stopped by Palmetto to see if they had any installed in a weapon I could try. All they had was a Geissele SSA and it did feel really nice. On the Geissele site they have a G2S that they say is very similar to the SSA but only $160. That is the most I would ever think to spend on a trigger. Palmetto also had ALG ACT and QMS triggers but not installed. Price on these are very good at $65 and $45. Also on my short list is the Spikes Tactical Battle trigger.

So questions, for me shooting holes in paper at the range plus having the rifle for possible home defense (I have other weapons for this) and not looking for something over the $100 but willing to spend $160 if the G2S is really that good. DO you think the ALG ACT would make me happy or should I get the G2S? Any other triggers I should consider? Lighter pull and smoother.....

Secondary, Geissele says the G2S installs different than the SSA, any idea how they install differently?

TIA

If you go to the equipment exchange there is a guy on there selling new geissele triggers for pretty cheap. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_7_125/1197735_Geissele_Triggers_Blowout_Sale___Great_Deals_including_ALG_Trigger.html   there is the link to the ad. He has some great prices and some coupons to stack. Triggers aren't really somewhere you should skimp if youre looking for something that will make a big difference. I use geissele sdc and would recommend them to anyone.

G2S feels almost identical to the SSA.  Differences are a different, easier to machine way of holding the hammer pin in, no laser marking, no 100% MP(only spot check)

Same tool steel and wire EDM

Thanks for both your answers and to NavyIS2 for the link. I ordered a SSA since they didn't have the G2S in stock and the $10 off a good starting price and great prices on PMAGs and free shipping made for a great value. Anyways, thanks. And thanks NavyIS2 for your service from a Retired Navy Metrologist.

You will positively love the SSA.  I have the SSA-E and can't say enough good things about how much of an improvement this is.  If you have not installed a trigger in an AR before (I had not), Bill Geissele has excellent on-line video instructions.  And, yes, you can do it with the lower in your lap and a single brass punch and little hammer, just like he did in the video.
