It's been awhile guys, refresh my memory, do I have to remove the selector switch in order to remove the trigger group

Usually, no - but sometimes non-critical dimensions can stack and might make removing your selector necessary in order to more easily disassemble or reassemble the fcg.

With the hammer removed put the safety in between safe and fire.  Push firmly on the right side of the safety and rotate the lever all the way around to the full auto position.  The safety might try to pop out to the left but keep it in the receiver but let it move to the left just enough that you can rotate it past fire to the full auto position.  You can then install or remove about 99% of the fire control going out there.  Remember to rotate it back to fire after installing the trigger before installing the hammer.
