| I'm about to change the furniture color on my AR. I have a black magpul trigger guard in place and I want to change it to FDE. Any easy ways of doing it? I really don't want to break off one of the trigger guard ears. Any hints / tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
| You should be able to find useful tips in the build it yourself section. Before even realized that section was there, I attempted to do one myself and actually alomst broke mine off..I say almost cause it didn't completely break off but, there is definitely a stress mark and it could possibly fall off eventually..Had to go with a MIAD and the intergrated trigger guard just in case... |

I always apply some oil/lube first..... the most "high-tech" way I've seen is a buddy of mine drilled a hole in the corner of a piece of wood so the pin will drop out into the wood with support all around the dog ear. I just use a 3/4" piece of melamine (covered osb) to support the bottom side. Be careful starting the new one in.... you wanna make sure the holes are lined up before you really start smacking, if you don't have a "roll-pin punch" just use a brass hammer instead, I also always drive/re-drive any pins in the same direction.... meaning if you drive it out from the left side then drive it in from the right side.... using the same roll pin will be easier than using the new roll pin. Thats all I got |

Soak the pin and area around it with penetrating lube like WD-40 a little while before you start on it. It will be much easier. And a proper roll pin punch will do a much better job than just a punch.
Make sure you tap it out rather than beat it out. That's pretty much it. See video of poster above. |
