I am building my first ar platform rifle and am new to building guns period. I need to know the difference between a single state and a double stage trigger? and what would be a better choice for a varmint rifle? The closest I can describe is that a single stage feels like a cocked double-action revolver or 1911 (no pre-travel or take-up) while a two stage feels like an uncocked revolver or Glock (quite a bit of travel before the sear breaks). The standard AR trigger is a single stage, albeit a lousy feeling one. Neither is "better", it's personal preference. I have a Geissele SSA in my 3-gun rifle - great trigger, I really like it. Stick with Geissele for a two stage. The SSA, SSA-E, and S3G are non-adjustable. The Hi-Speed DMR, service, and match are adjustable. Weight, feel, and adjustability vary between the models. If you want a single stage, look at the Wilson TTU. The Geissele has spoiled me. I'm going to put them in my other rifles as $$$ allows. |
