Happy New Year - I bought a reflex II last week and shot it with good results.  However, when I was cleaning my carbine I noticed the housing was loose.  I checked the screws on the mounting base and they were still very tight.  I even tightened the screws on the front that secure the polycarbonate fiberoptic plate and the housing is still loose.  Is this normal?

Back when I had one, there was no play in it what so ever.

I think I'm going to exchange it for an EOTech.  I have one on my other AR, but wanted to try something different this time.  Aimpoints are too expensive for my needs (plinking, home defense).

Update: I am sending the Reflex sight back to Trijicon with my dealer's assistance.  I will let you all know how their replacement or repair turns out, just giving them a chance to make it right since my dealer gave me a good deal ($299 for sight and mount).

Trijicon will take care of you.

I've owned several Reflex's before, both I and II, and had to send one back (I can't remember what it was for) and Trijicon made it right quick.

The Reflex sight was in the first SOPMOD kit but didn't last long, and for reason.

Aimpoints are too expensive for my needs (plinking, home defense).

The higher initial expense of the Aimpoint is offset by battery purchase for the EOtec.

Life cycles costs balance each other out. Buy what tou want, based on your needs, but understand that initial price may not always be the only factor.

Mine was loose as well - and had vertical stringing of shots frequently, but not always.  I talked to a Trijicon rep who said that they had a very large bad batch of springs inside the reflex II and that I should call Trijicon directly and tell them the problem.  The people on the phone confirmed the problem and had a repaired unit (or replacement - I really don't remember) send out immediately after I sent mine in.  I was without the unit for only around 1 week, including turnaround.  Their customer service is top-notch, IMO.

Update - finally had my Reflex II returned to me.  They said that a little play in the housing is normal and does not affect accuracy since the stage (where the tritium lamp and mirror are) is mounted securely to the mount.  But they took it apart anyway to make sure there were no other defects that slipped by QC.  They did find one I didn't notice - the front plastic fiber optic panel was "warped", so they replaced that.  I put it back on my Stag model 3 and shot it yesterday at 50 yards with 55 gr Monarch brass cased.  Not a bad 30 shot group, but I still like my EOTech 512 a little better because it has a 1 MOA dot as opposed to the 6.5 MOA dot on the Reflex.  I'll keep this sight because I got a great deal on it for $300 (mount included).  So overall, I am happy with this sight and with the customer service from Trijicon - but it would have been awesome if they sent me a 4x ACOG for my trouble !

Good shooting,
Charlie

Nice grouping, and its good to hear that Trijicon took care of the issues. I had a few early red dots, then the Reflex II. But I sold it after I got my first EoTech. It is the "N" battery type and its still on my teenagers AR. He loves it because of the size, nice and compact.

We put spare batteries in the MIAD grip and the range bag too. My 512 "F" w/ AA batteries do last longer and are cheaper than the N types. But I think people exaggerate on the battery useage of the EoTechs.

I also have an Aimpoint and the batteries far outlast the Eos but its not like we spend alot of $$ for batteries per year. We probably change 1-2 times per year, and if its about time I swap 'em out early and then use the AAs in a remote or something. My sons N type I run until the EoTech blinks and then put in new.

Its not like the Eos will just shut off, they blink the reticle and we have finished a range session with it blinking before. But these are just home and range rifles too. If it was my duty rifle I would change them out sooner.

I just finally traded ( I have wanted one forever!!!!) and received an ACOG, makes me want to sell the Eos and the Aimpoint now.

Yeah LMT's are beautiful - too bad civvies can only have them as parts guns instead of factory complete rifles.  It's very likely I'll have an Aimpoint before too long.  I only got into AR's this past August and am already working on a third build - it will probably have an Armalite upper at the end.  Not sure how many AR's I'll have before I'm satisfied.  But after watching Resident Evil Extinction - I realize I've got to get prepared!

Here's a pic of my Stag 3 with the Reflex II since y'all like pics so much.  I also got the Daniel Defense light mount from BC USA today - great folks, took three days to get here.  So here's my baby (one of them).  It is sister to a DPMS AP4 (chrome lined, 1:7).  I don't care what kool-aid drinkers say, DPMS and Stag make fine rifles!
