I recently installed a DPMS chrome bolt assy' on my first build, and I get ftf'15 to 20 times a 30 rd mag. Sometimes the round will get stuck on the way in, sometimes its like the recoil spring doesnt have enough ass to push the round out of the magazine. I have downsized my bling and put a regular bolt assy' and it functions flawless. Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks
Mot
p.s. It locks back about %50 time after last round

It sounds like you have a gas problem.

Check the screws on the gas key. Make sure they are tight and the screws are staked. Also make sure the gas tube is not binding on the gas key.

Edit: Is the bolt the only thing you changed or did you also replace the carrier?

The dreaded DPMS chrome plated key,

Problem is that DPMS chrome plates the standard oxide blasted key, and the addition plating builds up (compounded with the already rough surface of the bearing sides) and leads to the key binding/trying to enlarge/ eat it's way threw the sides of the upper cam track.

Options are to either hand lap the sides of the key (including breaking all four leading corners), or just keep the upper really, really lubed and let the key have it's way raping the receiver (widening the upper receiver cam track).

As for how I know this, The sad part is I have done it both ways as listed above, and have concluded that just pulling the plated key and replacing it with a non-plated key is simply the best (lapping the sides of the key removes the plating, which leads to the rest of plating flaking given enough time).

Note: this problem is not a total wide spread one, since some receiver upper tracks are wider than others) especially those that have been broken in/mated with a non plated key, but on a new upper receiver, it's a 90% sure thing that you will have problems out the gate.

P.S. if your going to lap, do the bearing sides of the cam as well.

I always read about "factory staked key"  what does it take to get it to line up? Also after comparison to my other carrier, the bottom rails of the chrome one are squared off instead of tapered.
It is a new RRA upper
