I'm almost done with my lower build and I dropped in the safety detent after I put the safety in place. When I go to put the grip in, the safety will only rotate with excessive amounts of pressure. The detent is facing down and the spring is in both holes properly, or so it seems. I did notice that the spring is extremely stiff. Is this normal? Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? When I removed the safety the groove in the safety seems to be worn from the force it took to rotate it. I'm at a loss and any help would be greatly appreciated. I have not installed the grip completely just sat it flush with some pressure and tried rotating the safety.

checked a few A2 grips and they all had 7 coils above the top edge of the grip.

Looks like the wrong spring.

Only 2 Springs left and the one I'm putting in the safety hole will not fit in the rear takedown hole. If it's the wrong one I don't know how that happened. Everything else functions fine.

Put some grease in the detention channel and oil on the bearing surface

take a bit of the point off the end of the detent. If still hard cut a coil off the spring, put the cut end in the grip.

It's just a detent spring.

Make sure it is the correct sprint.

If it is, then I would try polishing the edges of the detent holes in the selector.  Sometimes the edge has a burr or rough place on it.  Use the end of a small file or use some emery cloth wrapped around the end of a nail or something shaped like that.  You don't want to take off a lot of metal,  just smooth the edges.  You can test if this is part of the issue by taking the selector and pin out of the lower and press the pin into the selector by hand while trying to move the pin from one position to another.  You will feel if it "sticks".

If the force is still too great when you move it then use a hardened cutter to trim 1/2 a coil off the spring at a time until it works the way you want it to.  Sometimes the holes in some grips are too shallow and that compresses the spring making the selector stiff to move.

The safety detent spring is the stiffest of all the LPK springs.  You mention that the detent is facing down.  Just to confirm, the pointy end goes towards the actual safety in the lower and the detent goes in the lower.  I have had some that were very stiff and others that were not.  People sometimes cut a coil or two off but you do not want to make it loose so that the safety rotates too easily.

If it's from one of those Amazon sellers, a lot of them get bad reviews on how sharp/ pointy all the detents are and it makes rotating the safety and take down pins difficult to move.

Thank you everyone for all the help. I ended up putting a little grease in the channel of the safety then working it a little bit and it seems it worked. It's a little stiff, but not at all like it was. This was my first lower build and it was a little frustrating at times, but it all worked out and I'm quite happy with the end result.

And the beginnings of a Block 1. I know I need to remove the color fill. I want to thank to Alpharomeofifteen for the A2 grip.
