[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Troy MRF update (Page 1 of 2)

Even though I said I wasn't going to do it, I broke down and called Cheryl asking if the MRF's were set to ship. Last I'd heard is "this week." I hated to bug her, but she graciously offered to check on it and email me. She thought that Steve might have been picking them up today, which means they ship tomorrow. At the very least, Steve had promised her that they would ship this week. So, I should be getting more information shortly on exact ship date. She also told me that she estimated that they were about 60% sold out of their first run of these. She didn't know whether or not another run was in the works or not. Cheryl is a great person for Troy to have on the phones. She is always very friendly and helpful to deal with. And she thought it was funny that I got excited this weekend, hacked off my delta ring (in uncontrollable anticipation of the MRF) and now my handguards are held on with duct tape. [BD] I'll post more info as I get it. (Though I'd love to just get emailed the overnight tracking number.[;)]) |

Cheryl's great, hehe. She put up with my mindless babbling for the better part of an hour Friday, and was extremely pleasant. Same goes for Steve too, ultra nice folks. They're up there on my "good guy list", right next to Jeff from TangoDown and Wes@MSTN. -Cap'n BTW, since Steve might be picking up the MRFs today, I will omit my daily call to bother the Troy Industries crew for now... Consider yourselves lucky [;)] |

[;)] Do you have any inside info on the MRF? My biggest concern is that the top rail lines up exactly with the upper reciever rail. I'd like the option of putting a forward scope ring on the rear of the MRF if needed. |
Made the call and put an order in for a rifle length MRF. Had a great conversation with Cheryl as well. Oh, BTW Corey, Cheryl said if you ever call again, she will get a restraining order place against you......[:P] and since I was the nicest person she has talked to about the MRF, she bumped me to the top of the list[:O] |

Knew it was too good to be true. That's ok, Knight's is overnighting me a URX anyway...[nana]. All kidding aside, I am very eager to see the engineering that is invloved with these units. |

I just bought a new RRA chromelined M4 barrel last week with faux flash hider (like the look) and immediately cut the site tower down so it would fit underneath a mid-length TROY MRF. Barrel is mounted to an flat top upper begging for the arrival of the MRF from our friend Chen Lee's CL Tactical. Should be in this week along with the TROY BUIS site set, TD fore grip and pistol grip. Can't wait. I will try to get several pictures up(probably won't be the first or last)of the installation. I am confident it will perform as advertised. Waiting and watching. T |

I just got a call from my favorite person in the world. [:)] I'm not quoting anyone, and no one knows for sure, but.... It seems like a limited number of these could ship sometime tomorrow. Perhaps they're trying to rush a few out the door for those of us (me[;)]) who've been waiting a while? Overnight shipping means "someone" could get it on Friday so he can play with it all Friday night, post pics on AR15.com, drink some beers with his shooting buddy, and then sight it in on Saturday? I dunno. Probably the rest of the orders might not get shipped until next week? At least that's what the rumors are at this point. (Was I successful in saying something without actually saying anything at all?[:D]) At the very least I told this little birdie that 223Rem was willing to wait on his for a while. [;)] |
Quoted: ARGH! I was too busy blasting w/ an M240B (Post sample) to call [:(] Oh well, guess I'll have to call twice today to make up, hehe. -Cap'n NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo!! Don't call! Don't do ANYTHING that could take Cheryl away from very important task of packing and shipping! If you do, it'll be bad juju and your next experience with a beltfed will be a semiauto M60 with thousands of loose rounds and only 5 links. [:)] |
Quoted: Corey, I still want to see pics of the duct tape job!!! [:D] Roger that. Funny thing is, it works! (At least for a week or so....[;)]) PS This is so awesome that I can hear guitars wailing in the background.... NOTE: for Cheryl and the good people at Troy Ind. that are watching this thread, I'm not nutz. Well, not all the way. See: I am going to love the MRF with all of my body (including my pee pee). [banana] (I can't believe I used the banana in a post.[shock]) |
Quoted: Hey Guys, Thanks Again for the wonderful comments you have spoken about me. It is truely appreciated. I'm sure you know who I am. I don't think an introduction is needed.. 1 more Day Corey...... I'm sure the anticipation is killing you... Okay, I guess I'm going to have to embarass Cheryl here a little. [:I] Steve: I just got off the phone with Cheryl and was told that my MRF is being shipped this morning. I can't wait to get it, but that's not the point of this email. :) I'm just writing to say that Cheryl has been awesome this past month or so while we've been waiting for the MRF's. Not only has she been incredibly friendly to me (and others) when I call, but she has called me THREE TIMES to keep me up to speed on the expected delivery of the MRF's. There are so many firearms companies out there who don't have a good "face" to them. You call and get an annoyed receptionist, someone who doesn't know what they're talking about, or are made to felt like you the customer aren't important to the company. I just wanted to say that Cheryl has been the exact opposition of those poor business practices. I had never dealt with any Troy Industry products prior to calling you shortly after the SHOT Show. I was calling about the MRF, which was just debuted at SHOT. I half expected to get blown off and told that my business wasn't as important as that of the military and LEO's you deal with (and quite frankly, my individual business probably is not). But Cheryl was interested in what I wanted, knew about your products, kept me up to speed with the schedule, and was very pleasant to deal with. Actually, no. "Pleasant" is too bland of a term. Cheryl is warm, funny, nice, etc. etc. Since I contacted you (and immediately ordering an MRF), I have since purchased a Troy rear BUIS from Wes at MSTN. I love the sight, and can't wait to get my MRF. I may not have ordered the new (and unproven) Troy BUIS had I not known that if there was a problem I could call your company and deal with someone like Cheryl. (BTW, I don't think I'll have any problems with the sight -- it's the best on the market IMHO, which is saying a lot considering how successful the ARMS #40 has been.) I think Cheryl is an asset to your company, and has really made my first (and not last) experiences with Troy Ind. positive ones. I don't know what her job description is, but as the "face" of Troy Ind. she certainly leaves a very positive impression. Here are some other positive comments about Cheryl: http://www.jobrelatedstuff.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=185306&w=myTopicPop Thank you for the great products! (And thank you Cheryl for your help! ;) Corey Thanks again Cheryl! [beer] Corey PS Let me know what Steve says about that mod that I suggested. I think that if these guys here got wind of it, they'd go WILD over it! (I just had to float that one out there.[;)]) |
Quoted: Quoted: Hey Corey, don't forget to weigh it before you mount it! I don't have any decent way to measure it, other than a trigger pull gauge (which might work, actually). Surely the weight of the different MRF rails is something you can just ask Cheryl about...[;)] I'm also looking forward to the MRF review and I can't weight ot see how it turns out![:D] |
Quoted: Quoted: I better put this out there... Anyone else waiting on an MRF order will be shipping soon. Thanks for being patient. [blue]You gotta post pics Cheryl! your killing us!!!!![/blue] send them to me I will post them. I'll have them tomorrow night. Cheryl: Do you have weights? And tell Steve that I'm serious about that suggestion. If the shop does the work, I'll buy one (even if I have to sell the one I'm getting). Don't worry about making it look pretty, either. Corey |
Quoted: Corey, Unless I missed something in your posts you better explain this cryptic message about the shop doing the work! You can't leave us hanging here!!! Think DD 9.5 or ARMS SIR #58Mod. Would that rock in an MRF or what? [:D] I'd buy a midlength and hack it apart myself if I thought that I wouldn't totally butcher it. |
Quoted: Corey/Cheryl, That sounds nice!! I would go for one of those for a personal weapon. Specially since you probably would not have to remove the FSB to install it! Just so everyone doesn't get excited, this was an idea that I pitched to Cheryl. I also sent an email to Steve about it. I don't want to leave anyone with the impression that Troy is busy working on this project (though I'd have to think that it's gotta be in the back of their minds...). If I had the appropriate tools at home, I just might have ordered the midlength.... Corey |
I think the nice thing about this system is that you could get the midlength, chop your FSB (V-match style), and install the troy flip up front that goes on the top rail. Other systems can do this but if you ever wanted to remove the handguard for maintenance you would have to rezero your sights. But with the MRF you can remove the lower portion of the handguard and have plenty of access to your barrel and wouldn't have to worry about the zero on your iron sights. That's one more thing that's exciting about this HG. Correct me if I'm wrong. |
Quoted: Oh come on, Corey. You don't have a dremel tool, a hacksaw and some sandpaper?? Just wanted to say that I think a mod such as that would be VERY well received! Argh, you're making me regret my decision to get the carbine length!!!! And no, I don't have a dremel tool. They're not healthy to have as a 1911 owner. [:)] |

Just hack the delta ring off and you're set. |

A 1911 owner???? You're right, 1911s and Dremels don't go together!! Now, ARs and 1911s definitely go together!! Off topic, but here is a pic of my 1911 that goes everywhere the AR goes: And my AR will have an MRF at some point soon!! [:D] Corey, please note the distinct lack of duct tape!! |
If this thing turns out to be good enough construction wise, it's only competition for me would be the DD 9.5FSP. I like the extra rail length on the side and I like my FSP to track with the barrel, I want to stick with stock sights. If Troy would make one a carbine version with the extra long side rails there would be no debating. Either that or someone needs to make an angled flashlight mount that also pushes the light forward (cantilever like) a couple inches for standard carbine-length setups. |
