I am in the market for FF Rails for my next weapon the Colt 6933. I have looked at the Troy 7" carbine and this is the size I want. I went to a near by dealer and looked at the Smith Rifle with the Troy on to get a feel for the look and it is nice. I have a Larue on my 6920 but I want the continuous look as the Troy. Give me some good or bad on the Troy MRF-C 7". Go ahead and post some pics of rifles with the Troy and Thx. |

I have both the Samson and Troy carbine length rails. Things I noticed. Differences: -My Troy does not have the proper cut outs in order to use KAC panels. My Samson does. -Samson has an extra bolt to hold the lower rail on. Troy does not. This makes the Troy feel like it has a slight amount of wiggle. -Samson has some extra heli-coil threaded holes at 45 degree's on the rail. Troy does not. My guess is that they are for a Sling swivel. -Samson's clamp over the barrel nut is a bit big and can interfere with rail panels. Rail panels need to be trimmed to fit that area. Troys clamp is slimmer and didn't interfere with the panels I tried. -Troy has an extra picatiny notch on the top rail. This is located on the rearmost barrel nut side of the rail and gives it more of an MRP look. Similarities: -Both brand's rails have heli-coil inserts for the barrel nut clamp. -Both brand's have great fit and finish. -When installing, it's easier to attach the lower rail when the barrel nut clamp isn't fully tightened. I put CLP on all the tabs to help assist in installation. They didn't get scratched up. -You don't have to cut the delta ring assembly in order to install. If you have the proper AR gun-smithing tools, you can remove the delta ring without removing the frontsight block. This is great if you have a pinned Flash Suppressor. First remove the hand-guards. Then punch out the gas tube roll pin. Remove the gas tube. Loosen and remove the barrel nut, with attached delta ring assembly. Remove barrel assembly from upper. Use snap ring pliers to remove snap ring from barrel nut. Then just pull off the weld spring and delta ring. After that re-assemble the upper in the reverse order minus the delta ring assembly. This also gives you a chance to re-align your barrel if your front sight block is canted. Also, if you have some trouble remove the barrel from your upper, try loosening your action block a tad. (It tends to flex the receiver a bit and grip the barrel. Overall, I really like my Troy rail. It's pretty darn solid and well made. Only things I would like to see. Reduced weight. Add bolt to lower rail. |
The rail in your second picture has cuts for KAC panels. I find that strange since mine doesn't. (and others reported the same.) Did Troy recently change this? |
Edited because I'm a retard |

Shark, The Troy MRF-C that I had was Version 3 with the all black lettering. At that time, that was the latest and greatest. Troy eliminated the KAC cuts to the side rails only, since they started to supply 3 TangoDown panels that were modified to fit over the clamp. Still had KAC cuts to the top and bottom rails front and rear. I spoke to someone at Troy at length regarding their design. My Troy had movement in the lower rail. About 1/16". Enough to notice with a VFG attached. Tried on several carbines. Same movement. Sent back to Troy for a "NEW improved one". Same movement. And yes, it was installed correctly. Had to shim with electrical tape to remove the play. ![]() Found out about Samson, called and spoke directly to Scott (the owner actually answered the phone), spoke to him about my "problem". Scott sent me his rail with a spring detente and a lock down screw for NO movement. I had both, the Troy and Samson side by side to compare. To the untrained eye, they look the same, but are not. Used a postal scale to weight them. Samson was lighter by a few oz. No big deal. Rifle to heavy, work out more. Since I ditched my Troy rails, can't tell you about them now. As for which version Troy has now, I don't know, and don't care. The stuff that's on my rifle works for MY needs, so they might not work for YOU and your needs. If the Troys work for you, great! Also, my Samson rails have been left in car for hours on end (hot, cold, & humid climate conditions) and they are still black. I don't need to use oil to make them black. Do a search, well covered topic on the changes/issues. Have a good one. |
