Does the spent shell hit your face if you're shooting lefty without a bump on the upper?

depends on alot of things. Ammo used, worn out or new ejector spring, where you put your head on the stock. There is not a definite answer.

I shoot lefty. the 604 I just built launches the brass well clear of my face. like 10-12 feet away at about  the 2:30 position. there is a shiny spot on the ridge aft of the port door where the brass hits.

I have seen it happen, So I would say true!! Also need to watch for "Lefty Lip"!! If a lefty leans too far into the forward assist, the bolt will knock it back, and take a chunk out of said lefty!! Happened to my buddy shooting my Colt A2 CAR...Needed stitches and everything. Lucky we were good freinds as he was the suing type

I shoot lefty with a SP1 carbine, (no forward assist and no deflector). I have not had one shell hit me yet. But I also heard it happen before to others. This is just my experience.

Another Lefty checking in!  My upper without the brass deflector ejects the spent brass to the four o'clock position.

you can't tuna fish ....but you can tune a ejection pattern..................     bbrump bump

now if someone could replace the tacticool carbine in the chart with say an XM177 that would be cool

That shouldn't be too hard.
Send me your XM177 to photograph and I'll do the photoshop job for you.

Tex, if I was on my home computer with all my pics, I would, but I'm at the GF's house for a couple of days and don't have access to them at the moment.

.......perhaps I can google up something

You don't understand, I want a real carbine to play with in for a few days in exchange for photoshopping.
Actually as busy as I've been lately I don't have time to get out and play with anything.
I'm becoming a very dull boy.
My full schedule and overtime is going to continue for a couple more months.
We're losing people around here left and right.
One just resigned so he can go to Law school.

So my XM16E1 that I have never had an issue with is short-stroking? I don't buy it. FWIW, someone here posted how to modify the ejector for lefties, so it would eject further forward - like 2:00 I'll see if I can find the pic.

ETA: here's the pic of the ejector mod.
